Things I re-learned today
I've been hardwiring stuff in cars for almost 25 years. But it's been a little while since I've done anything beyond simple power taps... tonight I was installing my Brey-Krause fire extinguisher mount and decided while I had the seat out to do my under-seat LED install for the rear footwells. When it's all done and working I'll post pix - but I re-learned a couple of things that I have learned before, but kinda forgot...
1) When soldering plugs onto the ends of wires, always thread the caps for the plugs on the wires before soldering the ends on. I must have made this same mistake 5 times in the past 25 years. And everytime I do it I feel STUPID. Because, well, I AM STUPID...
2) When putting in lighting with some inline plugs, etc. always use your ohm meter to check for shorts BEFORE test wiring it into the car's electrical system... cause, well, I knew better than this too, but I blew a fuse... geesh. STUPID.
Golly. I guess if I did it everyday I'd remember the simple stuff. But the old gray matter doesn't quite work like it used to...
