Keyless Remote Sunroof left open

Well a few days ago left my sunroof open overnight. Guess what...It rained! After I freaked out and almost spilled scalding hot coffee on myself when I looked out the window to see this, I rain outside. I saw that my sunroof was only open a few inches but that was enough. Water was underneath my interior liner dripping on my dashboard into the vent hole. I cleaned everything up and let dry for a couple of days. Everything is fine except my keyless remote doesn't work.

QUESTION: Now my keyless remote does not do anything (both keys). Where is the sensor thingy to check if it is wet? Fuse for sensor?

HELP!

I can´t help you, but it seems that it is the same problem as mine. So lets hope someone has the answer.

wow something similar happened to me as well, but luckily rain got in for only about an hour. I totally freaked out. The headliner was soaked! I was afraid it was going to leave water stains. It was just terrible. Luckily I dried it all up with a towel and a blowdryer and everything still worked- no stains
.
I dont know the answer to your question, but I do share your pain.

The keyless sensor is located in the bottom of the rear view mirror. Did any water get in there? If so, is it still in there? Maybe once it dries out, it'll be ok?
If not, replace it.

Yes - grab the neck of the mirror, twist it & it will turn about 45 degrees, then it (the neck and mirror) will come off of the base. There will be some wires attached; once the mirror/neck are removed from the mount, the plastic cover covering the neck can be removed. Once done you will see the quick disconnect clip for the wires.

I've pulled mine of several times, the last time was a month or so ago to move my keyless entry sensor from the mirror to up in the headliner (so that I could easily/quickly pull my mirror off & out of the way when going thru twisties. Do a search - I have posted several instructions w/ pictures on how to do it. All I have/had in my mirror was the keyless remote. If you have autodimming, you prob won't be able to move that stuff but u could still review the posts to see how to remove/disconnect them temporarily.

I removed mirror and unplugged wire. I think everything is dry but it still does not work. The electrical plug is soley for the remote sensor inside of the mirror? You said you repositioned your sensor. How did you get it out of the mirror housing? I just saw your previous posts by doing a search. The two pics you posted were the only ones I saw. It sounded like getting into the mirror housing was a b*tch. I may just post a "WANTED" Ad for OEM mirror for 2005.

Removing the sensor was a little trying.. but I've been on several "spirited" drives and am glad I moved it so I could easily take off the mirror. To remove the sensor from the mirror - I first found a thread on how to do it - I believe it goes something like this: pull the mirror, disconnect the wire, remove the trim/facing along the outside (front) of the mirror so you can remove the actual "mirror" and see inside, look at the back where the neck meets the mirror and w/ a screwdriver/plyers remove the tension ring that holds the neck tight with the mirror housing, then you should be able to get at it.

Yes, the electrical plug is soley for the remote sensor in the mirror (if thats all u have... if you have the auto dimm or garage door opener then it powers those too - otherwise, only the remote sensor.

If it still doesn't work... dumb comment here...-> could it be a fuse problem?

Thanks for the tip on disassembling it. Well the receiver is fried. After popping out the mirror and looking under the receiver, I sasw that it was heavily corroded and definitely not fixable. So... I guess I need to track down another one or look into this homelink mirror. Homelink does not have it on there website for MINIs. Also, it seems that the only way to get a replacement is through MINI dealership parts department.

Try junkyards to look for a simple mirror? If you want homelink, you can get the mirror w/ the homelink in it from the dealer ($), or you can pick up a homelink transmitter from ebay and wire it in anywhere in the car. I saw a write up about it somewhere in here & they did a sweet job, but I already spent $35 for a new (normal) garage door transmitter for the Mini and velcro'd it under the switch panel so it wasn't noticeable (there's also a write up about that on here).

Yes... the sensor/circuit board (located insided the mirror)was corroded from the water . I did what Puppet did and disassembled the mirror. Unfortunately you cant buy just a replacement sensor, you have to buy the compete mirror. I called dealer for quote -$200. Then I called smalled repair shop and they can get it for $169 but it depends if you have auto dim (I don't).

Ok, I think my problem is the same, so I will also look for another mirror. Was it necessary to reprogram the key after installing the new mirror
