Electrical Not the usual BRAKE light mod
Not the usual BRAKE light mod
I really like the brake light mod. I was bored one day and thought maybe I can add something to it. So about a month ago, I started messing around with the tail light bulb panel. My intentions was to convert the single filament rear fog light to a DUAL filament. With just couple of handy tools, I was able to do it.
This probably doesn't make any sense so here are some pictures of the finished mod.
Quick info on the car: We have the 02-04 tails which was tinted. Pls excuse the temporary red reflector as I had to do it to be legal
Here is the car as is.. no lights, no brake lights.

Lights are now ON. Now here is where you see the effect of the conversion. Instead of just single light in the tailight, the rearfog light area now lights up too.

And here is the picture with the brake pedal pressed. Both light gets brighter. This is the typical look of the brake light mod with the rear fog light getting brighter with the oem brake light

I've driven behind our car at night once and its def a lot more visible. We've driven with this mod for about a month now and no unsual eletcrical side effects. The best part is the way I did it makes it reverseable so if you get tired of the mod, I can always go back to stock or just the rearfog mod.
Hope you guys like it

But for some quick DIYs.
I used the P21/5W dual filament bulb as the ones used in the bottom tail light bulb. I inserted a rubber tube on the stock metal contact point of the rear fog light. I then drilled 2 small holes (1/8 inch) so I can create 2 new contact points for the new bulb. I modified the base of the rearfog light base so it will accept the new bulb. Then from the tailight harness, the #4 wire is where you need to connect one contact point of the bulb and the #5 wire is where you connect the other. That's about it. It takes maybe 5 minutes to do each side.
Alot more of this will make sense with pictures but hopefully that gave you some idea on how this was done.

I really like it but had to search for a good hour to find this again. Any chance of getting instructions written up?

I've been wanting to do this for quite some time now, but I can't seem to wrap my pea sized brain around the directions given here. Anyone care to explain it to me like I was a 5 year old so I can finally get the tail lights I like?
