Oil sender questions

Im going to be installing some guages soon. I was wondering if anyone knows if I remove the OE oil pressure sender if it will throw a CEL or if my oil light will stay on permanently? Im thinking of just doing away with it and installing an adapter fitting and remote mounting my aftermarket sender. I just cant see paying $50 for the cravenspeed adapter. I can make one out of weatherhead fittings, but if the OE one isnt needed then i will remove it instead.

Are there any ill effects for doing this? Does the ECU use this info for anything important like timing?

Thanks in advance for any help.

It is my understanding that if you disconnect the stock pressure sender it will throw a code and turn on the oil pressure light on. I don't believe there is much of an option but to get the adapter if you want an aftermarket oil pressure gauge. If all else fails, call Way Motor Works and he will be able to answer all your questions.

Thanks for the reply. That's what I suspected.

yes if you get rid of the stock sending unit you will get an oil light. Also it is suppose to cut power to the fuel pump if it sees no oil pressure, so it could make the car not run by removing it.

Where did you find one for that price? Their website lists it for $75. Just curious, because I'm waiting for their nGauge oil pressure gauge to be released.

Just searching around. The cheapest place I've found is mini Corsa for $35. I think I'm going that route.

If your doing a bunch of gauges, I got all my adapters here...

http://rspec.co.uk/gauge-sensor-adap...ooper-adaptors

I also got a little "air filter" for the boost gauge line. After a couple years now, I can start to see residue building up. Kinda neat! Lol

Also, mount the aftermarket pressure sender away from the engine, dont just screw it into the adApter, it will break with the engine vibrations. You'll have to get some of that tiny copper tubing from the auto store.

Yes very true about remote mounting the sensor. Although I will be using an 18" grease gun flex hose. It has 1/8" NPT on both ends and can withstand around 2500 psi. Way more Than I need. It's also about $25 cheaper than a remote mounting kit.

i thought about using one of those too, but was worried about the heat from the oil / engine degrading the hose over time...

i think that copper hose is like 10 bucks or something. not really cheap, but, itll last forever.

It looks the exact same as the Craven adapter, only its $13. I just ordered one this morning.

Not exactly: it's a copy, but look at the location of the threaded boss. See how it's really close to the NPT threads that goes into the oil filter housing? That might be problematic, depending on the size of your aftermarket pressure sender. It could smash into the filter cup heat shield.

I'm running a remote line for my aftermarket sensor so it shouldn't be a problem.

Looks like I wasn't the only person looking into this - did you find the Moroso part from my post?

https://www.northamericanmotoring.co...ding-unit.html

I completely agree that $50-60 for that adapter is extreme, which is why I was looking for alternatives.

I didnt see your post, thats funny that we both found it around the same time. I was on the Summit site looking at brass npt fittings and happened to see it.

I had been looking for a solution for awhile. I was actually going to use some wheatherhead fittings and make my own until I found this.

Report back on how it works out. Should be fine as far as I can tell.
