Where are you placing your amps? Thinking of under driver/passenger seat

Trying to figure out where would be the best place to put my amplifier for my 4 channels and subwoofer. Anyone have any suggestions? I am thinking about the 4 channel under my drivers seat and then the subwoofer amp in the tool tray in the back, what do you think? Originally I thought about placing my amp where the stock amp would be but I just think it would be a pain if I need to adjust something.

Any comments are helpful.

What kind of car do you have? I have an 09 R56 and I've looked under the seats and I don't think anything will fit under the seats. Will the amp stay cool enough under seats?

09 JCW R56, I haven't pulled the seat but it should stay plenty cool. Modern amps really don't get that hot. I had two amps under one seat in my last car and it barely felt warm to the touch.

Are you looking to do a amp install?

I have the mini ARC amp that came with the IA sub which was designed to fit in the boot passenger side panel. onefish2 has his under his seat (or behind his seat) and he drives an 09 R56, should be fine as far as heat issues, but it depends on what the dimensions of your amp are.

The DSC (I think) stuff is under the passenger seat, so I doubt you'll have room there.

Why not somewhere in the boot where the existing amp is?

One thing, this is amazing the responses I have gotten back. I have kinda thought this forum was something dead for assistance.

Okay, back to the amps.

I was looking at the drivers seat because my originally aim was for the right wing where the amp is behind the panel but I couldn't adjust it wouldn't having to pull out so many things and I am not quite sure my Alpine 4 channel amp will fit in there. Also, I have been planning the subwoofer amp to be installed in there. My thought I just had was to cut a piece of MDF and make a tray for the amps in the back and then just make the tray cover work even if I put my seats down at some point.

In my 09 JCW R56 I just have the foam insert in that area but since I am doing dual amps I don't think spreading them that far from my distribute block is a good idea. I am actually currently working on a DIY as I do this install since it seems so common but no exact instructions. Currently I have my two amps in the rear tray area and trying to find MDF 1/4" board to cut and make a tray to hold them and then another piece to cover in fabric for the cover of the tray since the old one will not fit.

Sounds like a cool plan. Definitely give a DIY write-up and how-to when/if you get it to work!

Off to buy the MDF this morning and some fabric to cover it. I think this will work nicely because I have a my distributor blocks in the center and wires lining all up but just need to cover the tray and tray cover. Never thought putting in a amp would be this much work in the Mini

Okay so under the seats:

Driver side: ULF bluetooth module (if you have it)
Pass side: DSC module (that is a pretty small box, do not move or touch) and/or the Sirius SDARS tuner module.

Boot, Rear of the car
Driver side cover: HIFI or HK amp module
Pass side: HD Tuner IBOC tuner module

For the area under the seats you may need to cut the carpet and remove the styrofoam blocks. I had to cut the driver side carpet and install the plastic box for my retrofit of the Bluetooth module.

The DSC yaw sensor is under the passenger seat, but there's still a fair amount of room here for an amp. I managed to squeeze my subwoofer amp in there with no problem and it's a fairly big amp (see pic below). I just removed the styrofoam insert that was originally in here.

Note there is even a handy dandy ground point on the door sill (left side of the pic). For reference, "down" in this picture is towards the front of the car.

I need to look at the size of the the 250/1. I think one of my HDs will fit in there.
