SIRIUS PNP install questions

I've moved this question from the Nav and Audio forum to this one, as it seems more appropriate here.

After reading these forums for quite some time, I finally decided to setup a new 12v socket for my Sirius Sportster 4...

Using a Mini Add-A-Circuit, I tapped into Fuse #21 on the Passenger side (the radio), and spent a few hours wondering why I couldn't get power... Of course, after using the large hunk of exposed metal in the upper left corner of the fuse panel as my grounding plate, it worked wonderfully.

So after getting it setup and running the power to the cubby, I plug in my unit, and low and behold it works. I close the door, lock the vehicle, and notice that the Sirius unit is still on. I figure that this has to do with the 30 minute delay I've been reading so much about, and keep a mental note to check it later.

Unfortunately, when I checked it 30 minutes, and even 45 minutes, later the unit was still on. I was hoping to have the unit turn on/off when I unlocked/locked the vehicle, but the unit isn't doing that.

Did I mess something up in the installation?
Is Fuse #21 not the right fuse for the job?

I do have the Bluetooth option for my vehicle with phones that are paired to it, does this mean that it will take 60 minutes instead of 30 (assuming that's what's meant by 'telephone' in the 'Hot or Not' sticky)?

Any help/advice would be greatly appreciated!

I can't get to the wiring diagrams right now but many of the items in the mini are supplied with power at all times and switched on and off by low level signaling with in the computer system. This is probably what is happening. Unfortunately I do not know that much about the Sportster. It probably does not have a turn of timer, and if it did it would be turning off on you when you were listening to it.

I believe that there is a power line for the amp if you have the HiFi system that might be able to be tapped into to get it to turn off but unitl I can get to the wireing diagrams again I can not be sure.

Unfortunately, I did not figure it out...

For right now, I tapped into Fuse #30 (Park Assist - I believe)... The Sportster 4 now turns on/off with the engine, much like the cigarette lighter...

It really isn't the solution I was looking for but until I can find a way to make that happen. this will at least prevent me from draining my battery...

Ultimately, I'm under the impression that the Mini is doing some 'behind the scenes' things that I just can't do... A good example would be how the radio powers down when you lock the car... Obviously power is still cycling through the radio, cause you can hit the power button and it will turn on... I am assuming that the computer simply instructs the radio to turn off when the doors are locked, and restores the 'previous state' when the start/stop button is pressed.

I'll do some more testing this weekend, see if/when the device will turn off when tapping into a 30g line... I'll probably try Fuse 11 (Sirius/HD) next - It's a 30g line (like 21), but I don't think I have any equipment currently on it...

Will let you know what I find out!

Pohket - I know it's been a while since you made that post, but did you ever figure out the power thing with your Sirius sportster? I've got the same sirius unit and am also trying to figure out how to get the unit to turn off when I shut the radio down. I have to remember to turn mine off manually or it stays on (don't know how long it's on). I've got my add-a-fuse on the #11 - I also tried it on the #12 but got the same result. Let me know if you worked this out.

I have resigned myself to using fuse position 12. The Sirius shuts down about 30 minutes after the the doors are locked. It has not had any impact on my battery that I can tell.

This is all going to be a moot point for me as I am canceling my subscription. The Sirius/XM merger has resulted in the elimination of the only station I really listened to, Sirius Blues. IMHO, Bluesville SUCKS which is why I did NOT put in an XM unit. Mr. BB King should be ashamed to have his name associated with that program. OK, I stepped down off my soap box now.

Anybody want to buy a complete Sirius Stratus rig? I'm selling cheap!!

Okay on the fuse thing - thought I was missing something; nice to know I did have it as correct as it could be.

On the Sirius - I'm more of a Classic Rock and talk radio guy so their selection is just fine with me. Too bad you're going to drop it. Don't know how you can go back to all those commercials on terrestrial radio.

Is the stock radio "pre-wired" for Satellite Radio, or do you have to buy a special module to install? I wonder what the factory does when you order the $500 Sirius satellite option.
