Which wire in '04 Overhead Clock Console?

Apologies if this has been covered elsewhere, but I've scoured and couldn't find it. I'm all ready to attach the 12v connector into one of the three wires in my '04 MC's overhead clock console to hardwire a Valentine 1 detector, but which wire is the 12v line? All three are striped: I've got a brown/black (I'm thinking ground?), a red/green and a red/either grey or purple. I don't have a multimeter, anyone got a hot tip? Thanks!

There are three wires on the clock. One has 12 volts full time, another has a variable voltage used for the display (varying with brightness), the last is ground. While it's possible to tap off of the power at the clock, it will not go on and off with the ignition. You cannot operate anything from the display wire, the voltage is pulsewidth modulated (a square wave).

FWIW, it's easy enough to run an add-a-circuit from the fuse box and run the wire up the side of the dash and tuck it in behind the A pillar and headliner. Probably took longer to type that then it did to run wire.

I agree with Eric. Run the wire to the A-Pillar then under the door seal to the fuse box and use an add-a-fuse.

Yeah, wire tucked in behind the A-pillar (used a plastic spoon handle). Totally wired in 5 minutes. Out of sight, clean looking install. And the velcro thing to stick it to the roof liner is awesome.
