Anyone installed the "italian horn" from Griots?

I noticed they have the classic two note trumpet horn as heard on italian cars and classic brit's. I think the MINI needs this horn-anyone install this yet?

I installed a triple tone horn on my last car, and it was pretty straight forward. just connect the tubes the one from the oem horn, splice a wire or two and voila! of course, i havent taken a look at the mini for this, but i cant imagine its too hard.

depending on how much it costs, hella also offers these horns. i believe they're pretty cheap too

Funny you should ask! I bought one of these "Italian horns" from Griot's for my last car, but never got around to it, and now would love to get it in the MINI - but can't figure out where to mount it!

No sound clip on Griots site- I checked yesturday. If it's what am I thinking it is- the tone is a two note (high and low) trumpet blast and is pretty loud. I was actually watching a re-run of Magnum PI the other day and Magnum was driving the 308 GTB and sounded the horn as he entered the estate-great sound!

I too have been looking for a new horn, but I'm surprised many of the manufacturers don't put sound clips in this modern day of technology to sell their products on their web sites! I agree with MDK that the MINI needs it's own unique distinct sounding horn. I have always enjoyed the sound of the mid-80s 911 or one of the older British cars.

I e-mailed Griot's for a clip- or where to find a clip- of the horn they offer. If I hear back, I'll let you know-and try to attach the clip to my message.

This is an important Mod to me, these horns have prevented 2 near contacts with other cars and spooked deer into the next county.

I can recommend the Stebel Nautilus air horn, real Italian bright sounding horns, they also have sound clips on their site.

Wow - that new Stebel Brio on the main page of the Stebel site is an awesome looking (and sounding) horn - with switchable modes. Can't find anywhere that sells it though - any ideas?

Ken, do you think it will fit on a MINI? Does it have that classic blaring two note trumpet sound-like you hear on Ferrari or old Alfa? I never heard back from Griots when I e-mailed about a sound clip.

it sounds rather dissonant vs the typical air horns with the actual
horns with tubing. the traditional air horns sound more melodic (?),
more like a musical instrument.

the griots one sounds more like an actual horn/alarm...get out of the
way, look out! kind of sound. i like it.

Ask to see if they can get the Brio model since they are dealing with the a distributor

You can buy them from MC bike shops, they are popular such as
http://www.twistedthrottle.com/ or Amazon sells them

Stebel Nautilus Compact Dual-Tone 12-Volt Air Horn, 139 dB.
I think Stebel makes the OEM Ferrari / Lambo horns.
