The route is set for the first Eastern Iowa MINIs motoring event of 2009!
Our Second EIM River Views Run is planned for Saturday, April 25th. The drive kicks off at 9:15 am on the banks of the mighty Mississippi River in Clinton, IA. From there we cross the bridge into Illinois, traverse north along the river plain, and explore a few back roads east of Savanna, IL.
Our route then takes us up to Lookout Point in Mississippi Palisades State Park where we'll take a break and enjoy the panoramic view below. We back track just a bit to catch up with some superb twisties east of the park as we head north and eventually find ourselves stopping for lunch at Charlie's Place in Hanover, IL at high noon.
The rolling countryside continues as we motor north, pass by Galena, momentarily slip over the state line into Wisconsin, and then head back toward the river and Dubuque. Our final planned activity is a visit to the National Mississippi River Museum and Aquarium at the Port of Dubuque. We should arrive at the Aquarium around 2:00 pm.
Detailed route information including times, waypoint coordinates, distances, street names, and descriptions of each leg of the drive, are in the file attached to this post.
Feel free to post, PM, or email me if you have any questions.
How sweet it will be to get out on the open road together. Hope you have room on your calendar to join us.

I know long time no post. It's because I haven't even caught up with the '90's. Any how, I recently got an internet modem from the cable company just so I could play Nintendo Wii - Mario Kart on line w/o getting disconnected. For a while I was playing off of somebody's WI-FI connection but it proved to be unreliable. So I got hard wired. Anyway I might miss the River View Run due to my MINI being serviced. If they give me a MINI loaner I go but if its something else..whats the point. Or I'll change the maintenace date. Car needs to be tip top for MOTD '09 the Dragon you know.
P.S. 7 months, 13K miles and still no name.

Yep...great group! Hope the weather cooperates with us. *knocks on wood*
I'm adding this reminder that anyone who has a GMRS/FRS radio should bring it along with them to Clinton. There are several left-hand turns where it will be tough to get everyone through at once, and we're going to need to communicate to stay together.

15 MINIs and 30 good friends -- what a smashing showing for our inaugural drive for 2009! Hope everyone had as much fun as I did!
Love your new MINI Mike (and the new sig you finally broke out ). I'm sure glad I don't have to keep it a secret any longer.
Many thanks to all of the picture takers, to Rob and Lisa for their expert sweeping, and to Larry and Pam for leading the pack to Hanover after getting separated (next time we'll remember to enforce the "at least one MINI in the rear view mirror" rule to avoid that).
The aquarium was impressive. I never knew river otters and catfish got that big in the Mississippi River.
Have a fun time at the Dragon David! And another thought -- High Plains Motoring is less than three weeks away.
