What a fun post to read I think your son needs a good talking to about the posters, however!

I think you need to get one of those "MINI Parking Only" signs for the new garage. That'll teach him!

This is a link to a scan gauge 2 that I am considering buying. Mini mania.com has one also. Any advice on anything the rest of you use would be appreciated. Thanks!

L & T, I'd be the last person considered an authority on code scanners, but the JW one looks like a fine choice for mounting and having the continuous data readout available as you're motoring. It appears that it also has the ability to clear the trouble codes that drive the check engine "idiot lights" if you ever want/need to do that.

If you're looking at doing some serious maintenance diagnostics, there are other more robust scan tool options that can get fairly pricey in a hurry. Here's a few examples:

http://www.tooltopia.com/index.asp?P...utm_medium=PPC

Looks like a fun stocking stuffer!

Unfortunately, this one is not compatible with Macs.

Ummm...no. I am going to be sharing this reader with my son and he is pretty anti-PC. Okay, fine, we are Mac snobs. Besides, my laptop is older and too set in its ways for such frippery.

BTW, when I told him that it was suggested that I post a "MINI Cooper Parking Only" sign at his garage, he threatened to post one that said, "No Uppity German Cars Allowed." Ha! Our feud continues.

I have the on board computer so I already get the mileage read out and such. So I don't think I need a reader that mounts on my dash board. I would just like to know why my "service engine soon" light is on and be able to re-set it.

05MINI, you can swing by any parts store (napa, oriellys, advanced auto, autozone) and they should have code readers that you can use to read your engine code on hand or even some to buy. code readers usually run around 100 bucks. if you want a really really good one that can "scope" your engine take a look at this website: http://www1.snapon.com/ethos. but i don't know if you really want to spend that much money, even though i would LOVE to have this one: http://www1.snapon.com/verus.... but major OUCH to the pocket. i could have everything and more than i want for the MINI for that price. hope this helps.

OUCH! I think I will go with something a bit less expensive. I have perused the ones at Advance Auto. They are more in my budget. It is nice to dream!

D3m0N, thanks for meeting yesterday. I really love the mellow, throaty sound of your Miltek!

The Cajun Eggs Benedicts were mighty tasty too.

FYI, thought I'd share this opportunity to help someone in need, just in case you feel so called:

I have a soft spot for all of my former east coast MINI mates.

Hey folks, I've sent out several emails over the last couple of days. I've noticed that all of my emails sent to the <mchsi.com> domain are getting kicked back as undeliverable. Not sure what the problem is.

D3m0N, Acebutt, srmitch2, and MariaChick's dad -- you seem to be affected by this. Just thought you'd want to know.

Edit: My new email address has fixed the problem...yea!

Could you post the headers from the e-mails I am getting plenty of other mail

I am guessing MCHSI is on a banned list from your provider but the headers will tell that for sure

What that is indicating is that your mail server is unable to reach mchsi.com can you ping mail.mchsi.com from your home pc if so it is a config problem on the mail servers DNS settings.

So is anyone else wearing out their snow shovels like me?

The piles on the sides of my driveway are already 6' tall. 6-8" of new snow forecast for tonight. Oh, and winter doesn't officially start until tomorrow...
