Drivetrain Help, Question on Madness Intake?
I am about ready to install the Mini-Madness Intake, question: does the filter come pre-oiled from the factory? It has a "oil" odor to it, but I can't detect if there is actually any oil on it. Much appreciated if someone can answer.
I bought the Madness intake ( dark pink one) and although it had an oil smell, because it came with oil and oil cleaner I assumed it needed to be oiled and oiled it.
WHat I am wondering is if this is a problem. Too much application of oil. Reason is I noticed my gas mileage had gone down but that could also be due to the fact that the car is broken in and I am driving it harder due to the intake boost.
Probably 50 miles less a tank now then before. Any problems with over-oiling of the intake? How can I tell?

The problem is, if you oil it too much, the excess oil can get sucked in and as timj said can much up the sensors. I know all K&N filters come pre-oiled and are usually sealed in plastic. I would expect the filter to be pre-oiled but I don't have the madness intake so I can't say. I can't imagine they wouldn't oil it but they might have.

I installed the madness intake and the K&N was preoiled and sealed in a plastic bag. Love the kick in the pants and whine of the supercharger. Wish I had it during the driving school ... woohoo! Gave that M3 a run for his money.
