Drivetrain 17% S/C Pulley & 2% Crank
17% S/C Pulley & 2% Crank
Hi guys..
I know there are countless numbers of threads on this topic and after searching for most of this afternoon I still havent found the kinda thing Im looking for so please dont shout and newbs not using the search function!
Well basically, I have just been speaking to a local UK vendor about the 17% and 2% pulley combo and they have got back to me saying its completely safe, but i NEED a remap otherwise it wont be safe. Now, Ive never heard this mentioned before and I find it difficult to believe that a remap will make any difference to the safety of it?
I already have:
IK22 Spark Plugs
Milltek Cat Back
Alta Indc Kit
and always run on 99RON fuel.
Would anyone agree that what they have told me is true, or are they just trying to squeeze another £500 another of me for the custom remap?
Thanks, any help would be really appreciated

I'm by no means and expert...however, it's my understanding that the combo you're considering does push things into the more dangerous zone as far as pushing things to their limit. Especially things like your engine accessories like the alternator. I guess if they will somehow warrant the combo if you get the remap then maybe there is something to it?
Just a suggestion, but you might want to consider an alternator reduction pulley to keep it spinning more in spec. I know Alta for one sells such an item.
Good luck with winding up your MINI!

Using a 17% pulley and a 2% crank pulley is equivalent to using a 19% pulley by itself. Many people use a 19% pulley without an ECU upgrade without any issues. However to make the most of the combination it is recommended to upgrade the ECU software for better performance and at the same time I would recommend upgrading to larger fuel injectors as well.

I am new to this whole thing so don't jump on me if I say something dumb. If i were to go with the 19% crank pulley is there any reason to consider also getting an SC pulley? Also GIAC the best as far as ECU software upgrades? I just got an 04 MCS and i am looking to up the poneys and torque especially on the lower end.

So if I want to get the best possible power output with the leaset amount of risk, what is the best combo? Seems like a lot of people on here go with the -15%/+2% combo... Thoughts???

probably no one answer to that question

I have the GIAC software and if I were to do it all over again and had all the options available at the current moment, I would go with LDG. They seem to have made some large strides with ECU tuning.
