Webb Exhaust and Straight Pipes...

Well I install the resonated midpipe from the Borla Race on my car for the meantime (waiting on the hangers) and I must say WOW. I have NO idea how those of you with straight pipes or the webb exhaust (in open mode) put up with the sound levels. Props to you guys. Now I seriously CAN'T wait for those hangers to get in lololol...

I made a custom exhaust with ressonator and muffler

that was just too loud. It's lying on the floor of my shed. There's a place for open exhausts... At tracks, with no sound limit, and lots of hearing protection. Other than that, it's just a pain on yourself and others who have to listen to all the noise....

You're gettin' old man. Seriously though I have the Magnaflow and it is loud, but the Webb with the through-pipe open is UBER-loud. Though it is cool to shoot flames out the exhaust on throttle lift.

I'm glad you at least received your order. I still can't get the new Webb Sport Box and RAF I ordered at the end of January. Randy keep's promising that it's about to be shipped out. Kind of like "Checks in the mail". I need to send Tony Soprano after him.

how loud could it be? come on you guys, your supposed to be the young rebles, and you cant even take a little straight pipe? And i dont know about you guys that say the boral is loud, a friend has one on his, and i think its rather tame for a performance exhaust. You guys should run open header one day, that does tend to be a little loud, at least in my one car, but i know another guy who runs the same motor with a really short (like 2 foot long) straight pipe (duals of course) and its not very loud at all, maybe you should try those crazy sound cones or something. They arnt supposed to decrese power, but greatly decrease the dB. Sounds a bit dodgy to me, but maybe. I plan on building a set up that runs no muffler at first, but its going to run a tri y headers, which are quiter than their 4-1 cousins. See if I can work my magic on it. I will most definetly take it down the street open header tho. And dont even get me started on the SBC that run open header around here, I cant believe you think that is loud. Im starting to question my affilition with this site, you guys are just too tame (but then again, im a rockabilliest, and in that particualr section of the old car world, people go out of their way to make their cars as loud as posible.

Then again, maybe its that world why i dont find any exhaust loud anymore, icant hear any of them. Maybe im biased a bit, i might be deaf...

A head ache after driving for an hour is too loud...
Worrying that I'm damaging my daughters hearing is too loud...
Having EVERYONE stair at the car when you do anything other than idle is too loud...
having everyone in my neighborhood know that I'm coming and going is too loud...

That said, I'm about to do it all over again!

but then again, I'm not a young rebel anymore....

To clear things up, I don't think the Borla Race is loud at all. But right now all I'm running is stock header with the Borla resonated midpipe. And yes, I've run open header before, I must say this is a little better but not much haha. It sounds really nice from the outside, but inside the car it just drones waaaay too much. I get out of the car and don't have a headache but it still bothers my head lol. You have to remember that the noise is coming DIRECTLY under the seats so its louder than having straight pipes all the way to the back of the car.

I am young and I like loud, but I don't like, nor enjoy, drone while cruising. The plans are catless header with non-resonated Borla Race one day...

I took some video in HD that I'm waiting on uploading so that I can edit it. I'll be sure to post it up whenever I get done with it...

Yeah Dr. O, i knew you had a daughter, and that you really that young anymore, but i figured you would take it as a compliment. I guess most old cars have half an inch of tar on most of the interior skin of the steel too, not much droning going on in those cars, plus, no ac, so windows down, lots of wind noise. My windows are always down and sunroof open and radio loud, i would be able to hear a open header in my mini anyway, hahah. I must admit that i have never actually heard a catless or open header new mini before, so the might sound terrible anyway. Im hoping i for an exhuast that growls rather than rings like most rice burners do (one reason im staying away from stainless, it tends to ring more than mind steel, i am then ceramic coating the entire system so it doesnt rust). Plus i have a few tricks up my sleeve, encluding making a zero backpressure, non filled race muffler that supposedly greatly reduces noice if i dont like the particular sound the car has. I bet alot of the noice may also be genereated by the stupid cam timing that seems to be envogue right now (long ex durrations), and plan on getting rid of that hopefully over the winter when i do a cam. Ive hear open header 4 bangers, and they are wild (mind you they are also 200 cu and idle at about 300 rpm), but thats the sound im after! hahah.

Beecer

Too loud? Oh, no's!

Seriously, I'm picking my Mini up from the custom fab shop tonight. I'm having the battery box deleted and a custom 3" pipe as straight as possible to a Magnaflow race muffler. Hopefully the turbo will quiet it somewhat.

I'll report back.

The stock exhaust was way too loud, so now it's much quieter than stock with a giant 6" diameter, 14" long muffler right behind the cat (well, in expectation that it will get louder again once I get the header on).

There is room for an additional 4" diameter, 22" long one so if it turns out too loud, I could always add another round straight-through muffler as a resonator without affecting performance. Merely adds a little weight.

I think the function of a loud exhaust is to intimidate others. Since a MINI is just about the worst car to try to intimidate others with anyway, it's a much better idea to make it a silent-running Q-ship.

The Webb exhaust in open mode is not as loud as you think. Once you step on it it sounds more like a jet engine, a whooooosh. What's nice about the cutout valve is that you can have it loud or, well I wont' say quiet, but about on par with Magnaflow.

If a cyclist really wants safety, get the thing that modulates your high beam. Now that's noticable! The pipes on hogs... They're just annoying. I wish the cops up here would ticket that instead of the inanities they do to keep the bikers in check as riding season starts. Lots open it up as they leave skylonda (don't do this going north, I live right near to skyline, and there's a cop with a radar gun who ropes in a lot that get hot too close to town) and on any given sunny sunday, I hear the sound literally hundreds of times a day.
Now, it would be different if it were for performance, but the performance of the dual V engine is a joke, and they don't turn. I've had more harleys pull over to let me (in my Mini) pass than japenese bikes.
