Borla's lack of customer service:

I ordered a cat-back exhaust from a vendor (won't mention who... for now) way back December 12. The first time I took it to my exhaust guy, we discovered they sent the wrong year. I did get the correct one, got installed January 4. So far so good.

Within a week, a buzz at 3200 rpm inside a muffler developed. It's much like a DTM muffler I had on my Jetta, a baffle came undone inside the can. I have told the vendor, but the response has been weak. Get this, I still have the first shipment, still no UPS return tag e-mailed to me; good thing I have a shop to store it in.

Questions:
*Have I waited long enough to get this resolved?
*Is this typical for aftermarket product service?
*Does anyone want to buy an '05 exhaust without a warrantee card? (seems to be worthless anyway)

I definetly think you have waited long enough, you are pushing a month now. But I would also say that my one time experience with Borla was excellent. After 12,000 miles I noticed one of the clamps had a small crack in it, Borla sent me 4 new ones free of charge.

Sounds like the vendor just doesn't have their act together. Have you been charged for both sets of exhaust? If so, I would try to go through your CC company and contest the charge. That will get them moving in a hurry.

Yeah, contest the Credit Card charge and that will surely get their attention.

Borla requires the old part before it will issue a replacement; it’s on your warranty card. The fact you received a replacement exhaust before sending back the old is out of the ordinary.

I had a very poor experience with Borla’s customer service; my Y pipe had defective welds and it took over five months to get a replacement. The details of this mess-up are many but one aspect deserves telling, the vendor stopped working on my behalf about the fourth month, they gave me a contact number and I had to go through the chain of command at Borla to get the issue resolved; poor CS by both Borla and vendor. From my experience you (the customer) must be willing to put forth some effort and follow up on every single contact/request at/from Borla.

Given their poor CS track record, maybe people would be wise to avoid Borla at all costs.

I had a relatively good experience when my Borla Sport Cat Back exhaust had two problems, after about 40,000 miles. 1) a crack was starting to form where the hanger was welded onto the muffler (no exhaust leak) and 2) the resonator started resonating (loud rattle). I contacted Borla who said I needed to work the replacement through the distributor (Mini Madness). I told Mini Madness about the resonator noise and provided a picture of the crack. Mini Madness contacted Borla, obtained a replacement exhaust, and shipped the exhaust to me. It took about two weeks to get the exhaust. I had to return my old exhaust to Borla, at my cost, which I did not think was right. I ended up dropping off the old exhaust at Borla because I only live about 1.5 hours away. All in all a good experience with Borla and Mini Madness.

Thanks for the responses.

I see a mixed bag of CS from Borla. When my exhaust guy told me he has had other customers with Borla warrantee issues, my heart sank.

I have no other option than to become a PITA for the vendor.

there million mile warranty is bs too. minicoop78 had a borla race exhaust and two holes eventually wore through the rear mufflers, and borla refused to replace it even though it has the million mile warranty.

and we don't even live in a snowy environment! it rusted from the inside out through each muffler in exactly the same spot!!!

thats BS!!
