When I first installed mine, there was oil all over that black rubber connector piece of the filter when I opened it up. I just wiped the oil off that part, (repeatedly), then put it on. The trick is to NOT OVERTIGHTEN the clamp that holds the filter on. It doesn't have to be on there too tightly.

I found that when I tightened the clamp too much, it would actually squeeze the black rubber connector so much, that it would make the filter fall off after a few miles of driving. Luckily, my commute to work is a short trip!

I would really wipe off that black rubber connector piece and reinstall it. Then, I suggest that you carry a big flathead screwdriver with you for a couple weeks, and just peek underneath the bonnet after you've been driving. Also, listen carefully to the sound of the intake, and if you hear that sound change in any way, pull over and make sure the filter is still on.

I used isopropal (sp?) alcohol to clean the black part of my filter and the metal part that it goes onto. then just put the filter on as far as you can and clamp it down. I clamped mine down pretty hard at that point too. It's been on for about 13k and hasn't moved so much as a mm.

Same issue generated serious paranoia for me as well. I took some 40grit emory cloth and gave the outside of the tube some "tooth". Used naptha (lighter fluid) to clean both the tube and the filter and no problems since. I have two filters and change to a clean one at every oil change, (lets me clean, dry, oil at my leasure) and have yet to have any issues 50k later.

Same treatment to the DDM I installed on the wife's 06 MCSa last week as well.

And tighten only to "snug" is good advice as already stated.

And yes I am still addicted to the "scream" LOL
