Blue exhaust ( smoke )

It seems one of my roomates informed me that when I am WOT and nearing the upper 5k RPM marks my car emmits blue exhaust. I am hoping that it isnt the rings ( or that the rings havent set properly) I only use Mobil 1 full synthetic oil..

I'm no mechanic, but I know blue smoke out the exhaust means you are burning oil.

I know in older cars this usually happens from worn gaskets or o-rings and oil begins to leak into a cylinder, which causes misfires and fouls the spark plug.

Do you have any mods on your MCS?

He said that it STARTED black ( which i know is normal for a car with boost ) and then near the upper RPMs puffed blue.

Yes My MCS is modded, but only with the basics. CAI/Pulley/ etc. (Nothing major.)

It could be the fact of the way you have driven the car and the maintenance of it or lack thereof, just assuming of course. Doing the process of elimination.

No problem

Id say that I broke it in almost to spec. And the oil changes were done by my local Mini dealership until a few months back.

As for driving it hard; I am a member at the local race club ( Chin Motorsports) and have ran tracks such as Homestead.

I think that most of the blue smoke problems are caused mostly by oil buildup in the intercooler. I had this minor issue which went away upon adding an oil catch can. Since the oil tends to accumulate via partial throttle applications when the PCV valve is working (some manifold vacuum), oil will mist and condense in the intercooler. If it has a chance to accumulate in large amounts, a WOT blast will 'sweep' some oil from the nooks in the intercooler and boots into the engine and burn it off. It's not a big issue, but can foul plugs if it's happening a lot.

Clean out the IC before making some full throttle runs and see if the smoke recurs. I bet it doesnt.

I run big injectors and cold t-stat. This combo makes the car to rich on cold days - even with correct GIAC flash. I load up carbon in the cat and exaust and a hard burst will give black smoke for a few seconds while it clears out. I may change back to a stock t-stat for winter and see if that fixes it.
