M7 Aerogel Heatshield for the DFIC

With the introduction here...
https://www.northamericanmotoring.co...ad.php?t=87919
Peter and the crew at M7 continue to bring new products to enhance the performance of the DFIC. The Aerogel heatshield looks to be very effective at keeping the DFIC as cool as it can be. Very nice.

Peter, do the eyelets drop right over the mounting bosses that are under the DFIC diverter?

So from the data that Peter provides, their heatshield does an excellent job keeping heat away from the bottom part of the DFIC. I wonder how much of the heat is reflected (i.e., heat rejecting) back into the airflow/engine by the Aerogel lower surface?

And it looks like that concept is very adaptable to other locations in the engine compartment.

Hope to have one soon!

And, I do believe that M7 is pursuing other uses of this technology for us...

Ok Peter! I said I wanted one, you told me I would be first?

I don't see that UPS truck yet . Kid's, keep an eye out for that truck.

Do you have any pics of it installed?

I'm waiting patiently as well.

Those pictures above look real good. Can't wait, as usual.

I wouldn't use this under a TMIC.
This was discussed in another thread and is probably the reason Peter has stated in the product description that this is for their DFIC only.

Obehave is correct, it will not work. The air has enough of a problem exiting out under a TMIC as it is. If you were to add this the exhaust/exit side of the top mount would be really choked off.

Spoke with Peter last night, and yes, the eyelets are for securing this on the front IC stand-offs (DFIC diverter mounts), if I understood him correctly. It will drape forward the DFIC a bit I believe, and I'm hoping it might cover the radiator hose as well, but I'm not sure... Pic to follow later...

As obe said, for a more traditional TMIC, like the stocker, with the limited space below, this might not be prudent as it might further challenge the evacuation of the warmed ambient air from those style ICs. That said, this stuff does look quite thin, and this might be quite minimal, and a worthy trade-off for the heat rejection attributes it affords...

There are indeed other plans for this stuff, and derivations of it!

Just curious, since I don't have a DFIC (yet), but if you trap all of the heat in the fuel rail area, isn't that going to have some kind of negative effect?
I'm probably overlooking something.

Thanks Tony.
It would be nice if it covered the rad hose as well. I think that it might from what Randy has told me about it.

I asked the same question.
Haven't seen any data yet. It wouldn't be hard to shim this up enough to allow some flow under it. I'm sure we'll find out.

Here's some more images for you to look at.
Check out the temp delta at the upper radiator hose and the top surface of the M7 Aerogel Heatshield.

The car was idling for at least 30min for this test, ambient temps where in the mid 60ºF.

We are also relocating the M7 aluminum badge to the left corner as the tucked in surface is less curved on the the right.

Radiator hose surface 225ºF

M7 Aerogel Heatshield surface temp 115ºF

That's quite a temp differential, very nice Peter. Thanks for posting the pics.
