Drivetrain What size serpentine belt? 16%/2% pulley combo.
What size serpentine belt? 16%/2% pulley combo.
Hey guys. I need some quick help. I have an 05 MCS with a 16% and a 2% crank pulley. I was at the track when I lost power and the temp gauge shot up. Anyway, it turns out that I shredded the belt. I have about 8500 miles on the car. I need to pick up a belt today but not sure on what size. Can anyone tell be what size serpentine belt I need?
Thanks.
Thanks.
All the NAPA belts and hose are made by Gates. 54.5" sounds right.
No other issues.
What belt were you running?

Do you have a pic of the shred?
I hope you have a tensioner stop.
Did you have any other damage from the belt braking?
The tensioner stop is cheap insurance, go with a custom cable type.

I have seen a lot of these shredded belts and recommend that when anyone switches to a new SC pulley that they specify one with a "TRUFORM" TOOTH PROFILE. "TRUFORM" is the profile used by Original Equipment Manufacturers. The profile rounds the sharp peaks on the pulley and prevents premature belt wear and breakage, helps the belt track correctly, and runs quieter.

Cravenspeed, That does make sense to me. It does seem that mine are pretty sharp. If I continue to have problems I will switch them out.
Partsman, I actually misunderstood you when you asked if I had a tensioner stop. I thought you were talking about something different, so basically I have no clue what a tensioner stop is. Can you explain it.

The one pictured is the basic bar type, however there's a fine line between getting tight enough so it won't rattle, and not so tight where it won't slide.
I made a custom one out of some stainless cable and stainless ends with 8mm holes. This way I can tighten it down and the tensioner will still move normally.

Craven,
When I Google Truform tooth all I get is your site and a bunch of sites for pantyhose
Are you the only ones that use this wonder technology?
That's funny
-- Yahoo! returned a bunch of prosthetics sites
, and Jeeves took me to "marital aids"
Truform in its True Form
Here at Craven Speed, we take pride in our inventive nature. We are into invention in all its various forms, including vocabulary... Google "Flexitize". As we all know a true inventor draws on previous experience and expertise to expand the known universe. When we set out to create we brought with us vast experience with pantyhose, prosthetics and marital aides. We applied our understanding of these topics to their most logical application… pulleys!
In short, Truform is merely a word we use to describe the difference between our pulleys, and some other pulleys. It would be really low of us to go around naming other manufacturers parts that we feel are superior or inferior to ours. In fact, we are not sure how anyone who would do that could look at themselves in the mirror. We just suggest that you take a good look at the part you are considering purchasing and decide if it looks like one that will eat your belt. There are plenty of good pulleys out there!

Thanks Partsman, that helps out with the picture.
A tensioner stop keeps the tensioner from whacking the crank pulley when the belt breaks...

This lead me to believe that this was NOT an exclusive technology but more like "Mandrel" Bent exhaust. The poster should have said:
