Cleaning Unifilter?

what do I need to buy (and where) to clean my foam unifilter? All I have locally is kits to clean the k&n filters.

Thanks

You ned a UNI cleaner and UNI oil, available separately, but most often found in a package like this:

It seems that you prefer to purchase locally. None of my local automotive parts stores carried UNI products, so I checked around with some motorcycle gear shops, and they ALL had UNI service kits. HTH!

You can also call your local motorcycle shop to see if they have the UNI Service kit also.

And don't let anyone tell you that the K&N kit will work as well.

We aim to please!

The oil that comes in the UNI service kit is a spray-on. It's difficult (though certainly still possible) to over-oil using it. Last time I cleaned my CAI filter, I thought I'd be different and use the oil that you pour into a pan, soak the foam filter, and wring out the excess. Turns out that the foam soaks up a heck of a lot more oil than I anticipated. For weeks, my filter dripped oil into the bottom intake enclosure and leaked through the engine bay and onto my driveway.

The moral is, don't try to be different.

Thanks, I just called a couple and they have clening kits for foam filters, but they don't have specifically the UNI cleaning kit. Does it matter which brand?

I would personally buy the UNI brand. If I recall correctly that is who makes the Alta Foam Filter

Cleaning-wise, there's no reason why you can't use dish soap or a degreaser like Simple Green, per http://www.unifilter.com/maintenance.html .

On the other hand, when it comes to oiling, I've never come across another oil that has the tackiness of UNI oil - then again, I've never used another foam filter oil.

Perhaps give UNI a call and see if they can locate a dealer near you?

Ditto

Any good degreasing dish soap will make a good cleaner, but UNI's spray oil is the best.

Any motorcycle shop should have foam filter cleaner. I use UNI oil on my dirt bikes. I'd recommend the spray on because it's really easy of "over" oil a foam filter. The spray on is more expensive.
