AGS, Is it worth it?

Do the pros outweigh the cons on the AGS? I love the sound but do the gains justify the extra install time and has the leak been fixed?

Mr. Webb was testing this peice. Last I heard he was waiting for the Version 3 tube. I haven't heard anything more from him about it. I am interested in what his conclusion is -- Johan

Depends what you are going to use your MINI for, what other mods you are planning, and what is your budget for upgrades?

One "smart" option is to go for a ride in an MCS with the AGS installed- sit in the car and listen from both inside and outside the car. See what you think.

I'm sure the leak is fixed. Looks like they just put V.3 up on their site with the re-designed tube. Apparently, it's not available w/o heatshield and with the shield, it's ~$470.

Well the AGS is out of the question now, I am not paying almost $500 for a system that I can get the same power with the Alta.

I read on here and talked to some shops that said the initial production ones were prone to a leak around the tube.

IMO, the amount of work/time required for installation is an important factor to be considered. Also, if you should need to remount the stock unit, e.g., getting dinged during a smog check, you'll have a job that is not so simple. However, if you just want the sound effects, then go for it.

Or if you want the freshest air possible, this would be the best!

Call M7 and talk to Peter, see what you can come up with to satisfy your particular situation.
I've had the AGS on my car for a year (car is one year old) with no problems. I love it and wouldn't go back to stock or any other CAI. The system is that good. I'm waiting for my V.3 and will put it on when it comes. The improvements will be worth the slightly more effort, over putting on any CAI filter. One suggestion, if you have not installed a new pulley do so before the AGS or any other CAI you decide on.

Hi all,

Those with the AGS system, does the filter gets wet easily in heavy rain, especially its opening is right close to the front of the car?
Will the wetness create any potential problem for the throttle body etc?

I spoke to Peter yesterday and they dont have anymore of the AGS without the heatshield, meaning you have to buy the one with the heatshield for $469!! Funny thing is they tested, sold and praised the AGS without the heatshield but when I spoke to Peter he said they dont reccomend it, LOL but for almost $200 more you can get it with the heathshield.

You are missrepresenting what I said...period. It sounds like we just raised the price for no apperent reason, nothing can be further from the
thruth.

The price you have been quoting was the V.1 price, plastic tube no heat shield.
And yes I said I do not recomend to use our system without the heat shield
as the highpressure area inside the shield will prevent hot air to be ingested by the filter......products evolve, more sophisticated changes and manufacturing techniques get used, and in this case price went up.
I'm sorry that our product does not meet your price point, but I'm sure you can find a less expensive option that will meet your needs....

M7,

1. what about when it rains heavily during the monsoon season like in my country? Have you heard any cases of the filter being soak?

2. Is the filter easy to remove for periodic cleaning?

Not saying your raised the price for no reason, I am quiet sure that the new aluminum tube is by far more superior of a product and I am not saying I wont buy it, @ this point I am just trying to compare and see if there is that much more of an HP gain over the Alta for double the price. If I can talk my wife into it I will get it because the sound is unbelievable!

Just think.....get the ALTA and you'll still have enough for a pully!

Oh, and just curious...have you looked into the HAI? It sure doesn't look good....but I think it has the same power output as the ALTA and is $35!

I have yet to see any dyno charts. Only butt dynos and auditory thoughts. But that's about all an intake is going to do for you on any car (sound cool).

Thought about the ALta and I already have a pulley, bought a 19% from somebody on here and it was suppose to be an Alta but it wasnt when I received it, I think it may be a Helix! And just as soon as I can get Spillman over one weekend to help me install it I will be set.

I love Peter's products, but it would just end up in the FS forum in 12 months. Mr Webb and I have a date
