One-Balling/Removing Resonator

How many here have "one balled" their MINI S? I an thinking about paying a muffler to make the main pipe go staight to the muffler, and then 86 the resonator. How many have done this and are you happy with it? Is it worth 50 bucks?

I've been reading the threads on this, much the same position you are in except I'd be doing the work myself. I'm actually looking into doing a custom bolt on and running something like 2 Magnaflows.

Done it and love it. Sounds similar to stock, but slightly throatier. In my opinion, from the outside it sounds louder than any JCW exhaust I've heard.

Thanks in that case I'll go ahead and say bump as well even though this almost at the top as it is.

1-ball is a great exhaust set-up. You won't get much more sound nor new sexy tips but you get the performance gains equal to many after market catbacks.

I'm of the view that the best performance / bang for the buck system is the OBX header plus 1-ball. I later swapped my 1-ball out for a catback and got the sound and new sexy tips but I did not get anymore performance.

Bump on this for a question..

What muffler shops are people using for this? Meinike/Midas or a more custom speed shop? Not sure of any good custom shops around my area in NH.

Thanks!

Self-serving BUMP... where are people having the 1-ball conversions performed? Basic Midas or Meineke or somewhere more custom?

Lots of ways to skin this cat...

One of the local Minekis is owned by a member of the Nor-Cal shelby club, so performance work isn't an issue. It's a compound bend, not just a 90, and I think it goes from 2.25 to 2.5 as well. They guys who did mine welded together about 4-5 pieces from scrap exhaust systems to make it nice and smooth. Charged me $90. The stock exhaust is stainless, so you may have to call around for guys that TIG stainless, or not...

Let your fingers do the walking, and see what you find!

Matt

ps, Have had it on for quite a while, and love it. I'm a One-Ball/OBX Header guy as well.

I love mine. A local shop charged me $20. I guess we got the deal because he's done work on some of our other cars.

FYI - I picked up some weird resonanace / vibrations at certain speeds after going one-ball. I've since reploaced it with an aftermarket.
