Congrats on the clean looking install.

I'm not sure why you guys are gettin excited about the stock ecu handling all this. Our cars are equipped with a 2.5 bar map sensor which maxes out at around 22 psi. And as long as you are running the stock injectors the computer should work fine. However when you turn the boost up higher than 22psi then you run into problems...

Also another question... Why are you upgrading your fuel pump? You have stock pistons correct? The factory pump isn't as weak as everyone thinks. And if you plan on running alot of boost say good by to your pistons.

I must say i was a tad dubious about this kit. But its becoming quite popular with good results.

I wonder if alta would like to supply me some of there items

....so if i get a ticket to come over to the states...who wants to give me a test drive in one .....

i meant that americans are lucky that they have twincharged MCS to take ppl for spins in....but obviously anyone that wants one over here could get it easily. I just want someone to get it so i can get a ride

I'd personally never fit a twincharge kit, but i'd die for a drive in a TC MCS

Not one person out of the hundreds of MINI enthusiats at AMVIV asked for a ride in my T/C'd MINI. I had figured I'd be taking people for rides the whole weekend and was pretty excited to do it, but no one even hinted they wanted to go for a spin.

if i ever go to the states, i'll be sure to meet up with you....who wouldn't wanna go for a spin in something that fast each to their own i spose. You know what this site needs? sound/video clips of Twincharged cars from inside and out....i can't imagine what they'd sound like

Absolutely I'd get you a ride in it.

Working on getting my video footage digitalized. I'm not sure of the status as I don't own the camera it was recorded on. To be fair, my t/c is not the Alta kit. I'll get my footage, when I get it, posted into a new thread.

I did tie open the BPV on the inlet to the intake manifold & that cured the jumpy throttle(thanks Spillman). I didnt unhook the arm, just tied it open, but I think it still tries to move and its causing a cel p1242 every once and a while which points to the bpv. I buttoned her all up & take it down the road. Its noisey, sounds like I still have a boost leak. I drive it a bit listening carefully. I notice when the blowoff valve vents, the leak builds in the same manner till blowoff. Then the lite went off in my head......sound like the leak is coming from the blowoff valve. I pull over & pop the hood...yup sure enuff...there is my leak. Blowoff valve is stuck open. I was watching my boost gauge & I was only seeing around 12psi that entire time max. Mind you I wasnt flogging it, as I am still doing my troubleshooting. I tinker around with the blowoff valve, adjusting it & got it to snap shut. Time for a ride..... OMG.....I have never and mean NEVER seen a boost gauge move so fast!! I was trying to control my throttle as not to over boost, but that turbo spooled into the SC just is insane! I pegged my 25psi gauge in a split millisecond & imediately pulled off to adjust my boost controller. I back it out the whole way, but I am still able to hit 20 psi. This car is I N S A N E ! ! ! Thank God I put in a Quaife or this car would just spin to the moon. It pulls so hard uptop & doesnt want to stop! On my TT it pulls hard down low, but then it tappers off up top.

I went back to the shop & pulled out the injectors & I am sending them out to Alta today to have them modified to the 550cc flow rate. I still need to wire up the Apexi, but at least its installed. I will get that done over the weekend so I am ready for the Injectors when they come back. Then its off to the dyno.....

I have been documenting most of my work & will be posting that all up soon as I am off the dyno.
So what are doing to run 20psi through with the stock ECU and injectors?

If Alta had a shop in NSW i might have been half arsed to fit one coz if the car goes gangbusters ill know EXACTLY who to talk to.

Not sure what you are asking here, but I will try to answer you.

This setup was only for testing my boost. This isn't how the car will be running. I dont want anyone to get the wrong idea that this is the way the car will be left. As with any good troubleshooting, you only make small adjustments at a given time till you sort out the issues. I was having a boost leak & the car was running rough, so instead of installing the larger injectors & the Apexi fuel management 1st, I ran the ECU as it came (stock) & the stock injectors. I figured out my issue, so I pulled the injectors & sent them out to be resized to 550cc. I then installed the apexi fuel managment hardware to help out the ecu for the larger amount of spray.

Spillman, as for the Fuel pump, they are inexpensive & if Alta reccomends it for the larger injectors, then I have no issue with swapping it out. It is actually a pretty normal thing to do when you run larger injectors. I am not saying or disagreeing that the stock fuel pump wont handle it, I am just be proactive instead of reactive....

Yes I will also be replacing the pistons, rods, & head, just not yet. after dumping 7 large into this car I figured I would take a breather before I pull the engine, unless I toast a piston first.

I see

Ok I see, just testing. I thought you decided you pump it up lol. Ok then thats cool. Ive never worked around with a fuel management modual, how complex is it. If I decided to finally put in these 550s that ive been holding off on, is the process to program it tough?

In order to run these size injectors effectively you will need some sort of way to control the fuel flow to them. There has been a lot of success using the Apexi select II units to keep your air\fuel ratio in check. This unit basically intercepts the signal from the cars ecu and allows you to make changes in percentages to adjust fuel flow. This isn't the most ideal way as it limits the abilities of the factory ecu as it is seeing one thing and the engine is seeing another now. The biggest area of concern is the timing. Fornunatly the Apexi unit does have a knock sensor built into it to help out now where the stock ecu is blind.

As for adjustment the Apexi is pretty simple to adjust but there is only two ways to adjust it safetly. You need to tune it on a dyno that can measure air\fuel ratios. This is the most effective way to adjust. The other way is to use a wide band o2 sensor. this would be more difficult to do as you would need to be driving it in order to get the readings. Could prove to be difficult if done by yourself. I recommend the dyno as its no time to be doin a halfass tune especially on the intial tune.

Hope that helps!

The video footage appears to be stuck on the video recorder due to a missing cable that would allow the camera owner to extract the video. I'm not an A/V guy so I guess I'm stuck unless there's a PHX area person reading this thread that can video my car in action.

Thanks, I am trying to contribute! The car is still waiting for the Injectors to get back, so its just sitting there....The Apexi is in, but I didnt cut into the harness yet, I have been slacking a lil as I havent had the time to work on her. The car is out at a friends garage, and its a 30 min drive to get to it, so I try to go out when I have a bunch to do. All I have to do is the fuel pump & wire in the Apexi, so I figured I would do that all as soon as I get my injectors back. I was hoping to get them last week, but alas no. I really hope to get them before this weekend. The other issue is dyno time. Since I havent installed a wideband yet, I cant really take it out to test since the fuel map will be WAY off with all that fuel. Maybe I should just order a wideband and do a rough tune before I can get it to the dyno. I am chomping at the bit to get this car done. I want to bring it down to the dragon, but I dont know if I will make it, as I didnt make any plans for hotels or camping as I wasnt sure if the car would be done by then.....

This would be a huge addition to the Dragon if you can make it...... you should come anyway just to see all the "stuff"
