Hi everyone,

I've been reading this thread with lots of interest and so close to taking creating an Alta twin charge too but just have a few questions really:

How long is the turbo lag? I was thinking it might be less having the extra exhaust pressure from the SC output.
Does anyone have a copy of the install instructions or maybe an install how to guide? Really any help with getting it 100% right first time around is very welcome.
Since i'm on the other side of the pond does anyone see any problems with the right hand drive car having a different lay out? e.g. brake cylinder and such.
Is anyone using their kit with the standard MINI LSD too?

I'm only planning a fully stock setup to begin with and then moving onto 20+ boost later after quite a few mods.

Thanks guys! What i've read so far has to be the most info anywhere on the net in one thread about twin charges. Fantastic! What impressed me most is just how helpful everyone is and even Alta dropping by to see how you're doing.

Send me your email addy and I can forward you the install instructions. Do you happen to have bonnet pix? That would help as I would be able to see what was different from the left hand drive.

As for turbo lag, its really not an issue.

Thanks for the quick response. Will PM you in a minute with email addy

Here's a couple of pics. I'd really love to keep the strut brace if I can work around it as it really has made so much difference to the cars handling that you wouldnt believe! Let me know what you think. I can get different angles if required down the back tomorrow if you require?

Is anyone running the V2 Alta Intercooler with great success?

I dont see anything that is different from that view than the lefthand drive cars. The big thing would be your DP clearance. I am not sure if your steering linkage would be in the way then. Its hard to see in there, and you really will be removing all of the back black plastic. As long as the steering linkage isnt in the way you should be good. As for the strut brace, the intake pipe may clear it underneath, but if not, you may need to alter that pipe. Check out the pix in my gallery to see how high it runs. There is a little bit of play with the pipe depending how u clock the compressor side of the turbo.

Thats good thinking and i'll check in the light but i'm confident that the power steering shouldnt be too much of a problem.

Have just been look at a few peoples installs and looks defiantly possible to work around the strut brace but just need to watch for engine movement so probably somenew engine mounts.

Thanks for having a look, always good to get a second set of eyes to have a quick look for anything I might have missed.

Hi

Looks like there wont be a problem on a right hand drive.

A couple more questions though:

Has anyone has problems with engine temps using the +5% supercharger pulley? e.g. less water flow
Is anyone running the kit or similar with a stock pulley?
Anyone working on or have removed the supercharger completely and using an electric water pump?

Yeah....heat is an issue....I do notice I run hotter even at idle. I am removing the SC in the next few months & running an electric pump.

Wow great vids! Naturally I would love the Widow but have to be realistic at the moment. Still 300HP in a MINI has to run fantastic!

GTT tuning over here are about to release a turbo only kit very soon but they are looking for £8K/$16K which is far more than id like to spend. They have raised a very interesting issue with how water is passed through the block e.g. in and out the same side because the SC is blocking the cylinder 1 port which explains why so many tuned MINI block that cylinder first.

Also with an electric pump you can delay it starting to let the engine warm up a bit more or vary the flow depending on temp and even run for a minute after the engine stops to cool the turbo and protect it a bit from the extreme heat once the engine stops.

Let me know how you get on! Are you creating a new inlet manifold yourself?

Afternoon guys!

Quick question on mounting of the Turbo, does the ALTA kit have a brace to mount the turbo or is it purely held in place by the manifold/manifold bolts? Do other kits do it the same way.

My drive to work with ever increasingly bad roads just got me thinking this morning that the manifold bolts must have to take some punishment with the pot holes around here.

Thanks

No the only thing holding it in is the manifold and the downpipe bolted to the rest of the exhaust. Mine is holding up fine, but make sure you get their thicker manifold as the thinner ones will crack in short order.

Thanks, defiantly will make sure its the thicker one and i'm just waiting for the new CAT downpipes to become available. Will be interesting to see if there is any power loss with the CAT but required for me to get through the tests over here. Will be working on a decat pipe for track use as a future plan.

Cant wait! Let the project begin!

Need some help... Does anybody have instructions on how to install the O2 simulator? I tried to open the PDF file 4-5 times with no luck. I emailed then with no reply. Really wish they would include instructions with the part.
Thanks....
