Milltek raspy mechanical noise help?

My Milltek has developed a very nasty noise particularly between 2-3K. I just asked Hctor to look over the hangers and see if there is a rub but the thing resonates mechanically something awful and sounds bad....and I do mean bad. Has something internal failed ..... any ideas out there ..... has anyone had this problem?

do you have a short shifter ? The miltek resonator is really big and very close if you have a short shifter installed, especially on an 05 with b&m shifter. Maybe it has shifted and is rubbing the tunnel?

Did you relpace all your rubber mounts when you installed your Milltek?

My centre mounts broke after a track day and the zorst was rattling quite a bit. New mounts and all was fixed.

It's the mounts in this photo I am talking about.

If it's the hangers, let me give you a tip. I broke the two inner rear hangers when I installed my Milltek (part 14 in the link above). I figured I'd just run down to my local dealer and pick up a couple replacements. They quoted me $30 each, plus CA sales tax. Ouch!

Called Jayson at Classic MINI, who quoted $20 each, and with a NAM discount, they came to $16 each, plus about $10 shipping (and no sales tax.) Had to wait a few more days, but saved over $20 by getting them from Classic.

This a picture of my Milltek resonator with cracks at 25,000 miles. There is another crack directly above the pipe but I can't get the picture to attach. After 3 bad headers and two troublesome catbacks I don’t have a favorable opinion of Milltek products.

Yeah, the hangers I had to replace weren't exactly cheap either, around AU$75 all up from memory, but fixed my problem without issue, so I'm happy.

Mind, on reading my Bentley manual after changing the exhaust over (like any decent male would) it did state that when replacing exhaust components to replace all necessary hangers as well.

Live and learn.

I came down with a very nasty rattle at low RPM’s with my Milltek a couple months ago. I thought I had a loose hanger or even broke. Come to find out it was my back-up light was loose and being directly above the exhaust, low RPM’s make it rattle something bad.

Once, shame on you, twice shame on me; a sixth? I don’t think so; no more Millteks for me mikem53.

And while we’re on the subject, I’ll take this opportunity to trash Borla’s warranty performance. It has been over 4 ½ months and still no Y-pipe replacement.

It's not a Milltek, but I had an RSpeed resonator come apart inside, so there were no outward signs.....but your words are a perfect description of the sound I had. I got under the car and started bumping things w/ a rubber mallet and rapping the resonator told the tale. I had a local shop cut it out and weld in a straight pipe, and then it was easy to see the perforated inner pipe had cracked and broken and was rattling around inside.

I'm getting bad cat codes again....... Minis seeem to eat exhausts...... I will say that Stamosphere has been great to deal with..... as long as they take care of the problems it is hard to fault them..... I like my Milltek.....
