I was having problems with the "System too rich" code, Dinan issued an updated tune to fix what they termed as a change in the '06 they hadn't been aware of. Since then, it's all been good.

Since I've posted on this issue, I've been driving less heavy and taking it easy coming off throttle. It definitely makes a difference. If the 15% pulley causes the supercharger to spin faster, coming off of it would make a similar faster reduction, possibly causing the excessive popping (the sound ricochets off of the condo canyons down here!)

I've left messages for Sean at Dinan today. I'm going to speak with the dealer tomorrow.

I'm torn about this: I really don't want to take off the pulley. At Sebring, I walked away from a heavily Alta'ed MCS on the straights.

yea what he said....you should def have the stage 5 flash in there with the pulley your using. you wanna fattin up that fuel also so a set of injectors would help also since your not using there FPR that come with the boost kit.

Alright I recieved SilverBullet back & he is a WHOLE new machine.WOW this is the way they should have come from the factory.Super zippy & way smoother than stage4 was.I also didn't notice any extra pops from the exhaust or no extra noise.Just smoooooth power.

I also picked up,
Dinan ign wire set.
Dinan air filter "needed a new one".
Dinan stb.
Dinan rear sway bar.
Dinan floor matts.

In a few weeks I will have my Stage1 badge & rear deck lid badge.I can't wait.

I am interested in hearing more about this... as I was having the same issue a few months back and downgraded to mid-grade...

WOW....When i was working for them 2 years ago we started having that prob and they blamed the company who supplied them with the pieces to make the exhaust saying they weren't stainless steel.

Test it with a magnet and see if it sticks...if it does it isnt stainless.

Well, mine's fine now. Give them a call, especially if you're still getting the code. Considering mine is also an '06, it might be the same situation. I took the car in for a ECU tweak and that took care of it. I spoke to Dinan about it and they said they'd made a small tweak based on a minor change made to '06's that they hadn't notice in their test mules, which I think were '05 and earlier.

I'll check it with a fridge magnet tomorrow! I'm on the fence now as to whether I should get another one or just consider it "3 strikes" and find an alternative. I DO like this exhaust very much and hate that this one issue is putting a damper on my satisfaction.

dinan exhaust

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MhDDv4ydmDw Just wondering if the Dinan exhaust hangs this low for all of you that own it? Is this a good representation on how the Dinan exhaust sounds? I like the Dinan S1 package for a newbe mod wanter but, I'm not sure of the exhaust. I've seen a few positive posts, does anyone out there have a convincing argument either way?

As far as sitting low its not that low.You have to look at the grass. The grass in the video makes it look realy low.No mine does not sound like that because I am using the factory header & cat.The owner of that Mini must have a after market header & posibly no cat.

If you lived closer I would let ya take my Mini out & see how you like it.The Dinan exhaust does not drone & is not verry loud unless you get on it & go WOT.

Yeah you can see the dinan exhaust, but it doesn't really look like the video unless you're laying on the ground. It is a one baller, but the look doesn't bother me. Not a great representation of the sound. All that tinny high pitched stuff on the vid is recording distortion. I get positive comments on the sound of mine. You need to listen to one in person. Most video sound leaves alot to be desired.

There is where the problem lies, no one in this area seems to have one to hear in person, the Dinan dealer has not made any installs on Mini around here. I 'm about to pull the trigger on the purchase anyway.

Well if you were in Wa state NW Mini has a few instock & if you were to have them install it they are doing a 50% off retail price!

I recieved my Stage5 ecu & boost upgrade for about $1100.00 bucks installed.

Man SilverBullet flies now.

Yea, that looks about right if you're laying on the ground. The sound on the file doesn't do it justice at all, but I can tell that that is exactly how mine would sound if it were on youtube.

Yeh, that Youtube clip isn't quite right. Mine doesn't sound as raspy, it pops like crazy though!

So for the most part, the muffler is somewhat visilble if one was behind the Mini that has a Dinan exhaust? Are you guys pleased with the sound and performance of the exhaust system? It seems as though Dinan could be the one stop mod shop/dealer to go to. Unfortunately Wi. does not seem to have many or any Dinan tuned cars to look at. So, I've got to rely on what is on threads like this to base my opinion on!

If I stand behind my car, the bottom of the muffler is about even with the bottom of the tips, but further under the car and in shadow. So I'd say that, yeah "somewhat visible" is precisely the right terminology. :p

I like the sound. Not raspy as in the video, and like Scavenger's, mine pops like crazy. Mine's an 05 when they started to program the "pop" effect into the software. The exhaust may sound different in this regard on other year cars.(?)

I haven't had rusting problems (yet). The one thing that annoys me though is that being a one ball, most of the exhaust flows through the far tip, so it is always a different color than the inner tip - black from soot and heat colored, so its different even when it's clean.

I like my Dinan exhaust well enough not to change it. But if I had it to do again, I may have gone a different route. For the (full) price, there are alot of other fine exhausts around. Most of the Dinan stage 5 power package is designed to work together as a system, but I'm convinced that pretty much any free-flowing exhaust can be subbed in with no ill effects.

Even if you can't get to listen to a Dinan exhaust in person, I'd still listen to as many others as possible to make an informed decision. Don't give in too soon to the demon "exhaust fever"!

I was sure I wanted a quiet exhaust - miltek or JCW, but the Dinan has really won me over. The rust on the tips hasn't, but I love the sound.

My Mini is a 04 with all options except the nav. system. There does seem to be a lot of nice systems available. I'm interested in a low sound, kind of mellow tone with no drone. But something with more guts than the stock sound Can not say that the loudest systems interest me. Down the road, may be next year I will be considering the Dinan boost package and thottle body. But for now the S1 package seems like the ticket (hopefully not tickets). Joe R, I'm getting an O.K. deal in Madison Wi. but not 50% off retail, nice deal!! The Madtown dealer is knocking off some. Maybe they can give more as you buy more, like your dealer seems to be doing. Sounds as though the Silver Bullet is a very fun ride. Thanks for the feedback everyone!!

My MINI is getting an exhaust replacement today, due to the rust issue. I really like it so I think if the replacement rusts I may go black out on the tips.
