Drivetrain New videos of Quicksilver, Magnaflow and Borla
Hello all,
Thanks Randy...yet again another terrific job
That is a terrific reprensentation of the magnaflow exhaust sound in the cabin.
Kevin is at approx 75 mph and that's representative of the volume and as important the "tone" of the cabin sound.
You can as shown..... truly have a comfortable conversation.
The "drone" IMHO is ...the problem issue with this system.
On a 30 or more minute drive....that drone was unbearable to me.
As you get closer to 90 mph is gets...progressively....louder and more pronounced.
Driving locally around town ...it's a terrific sound and a pleasure to listen to.
Again...just MHO
Peace,
D

All hail Randy ! Very nice video. I still think the Magnaflow has the sweetest note. ('Im a proud driver of a magnaflow equiped "S"
The Magnaflow, IMO, is the only one that gets away from that "tinny" sound that is found on stock. Can the stock exhaust note get edited to this video at the beginning for a more complete comparison?

Magnaflow sounds the best to me. Did the other cars have all the same other mods? It seems that it wound up a little eaiser or smother than the others and that may have helped the sound some but I am sure that no matter what, the magnaflow will still sound the best. I want to move the battery and run a flow master single muffler with a good looking tip.
>>Which model of Magnaflow is it?
The S. There is only one model for each of the MINIs.
Dennis,
That was actually me driving and talking - I was multi-tasking
. Kelly was shooting the video.
SMG,
The Borla did sound a little loud in that comparison, but I think it just may have been the way the video picked it up - it really isn't near as loud as the Magnaflow.
kite-surfer,
All three of the cars had the intake. The Magnaflow was my car - which does have a few other mods. The Magnaflow has always sounded smoother than the other systems though. It actually doesn't sound any different on a car with just the intake.
Let me know if there are any other questions.

Great videos. Just what we needed! OK, I have the QS and I think it's the best because it's serious sounding when you get on it and mellow when you're cruising. no droning noise to speak of. I don't need a boy racer sound. Think subtle! Don't you always know when you're next to some '95 Civic with a 5 inch exhaust tip and removed cat? I don't want to sound like that! Just my opinion! I love my QS!

Another great job. Thanks to ALL the guys that helped to put it together.
I like the deeper note of the Magnaflow, but with the small engine, the resonance still sounds like a Honda-racer to me. And I don't care for that. I think many of us want our MINI's exhaust to sound like a V8 is under the hood, and it just isn't possible. I agree with Randy, though, it is the smoothest of them all. That's nice.
For me, even though it's a higher note, I like the Quicksilver the best. It lacks that droning sound ... like the exhaust has a head cold...I just wish they could capture the tin sound at the highest revs. I love the understated gurgles.
The Borla sounds a lot like a chainsaw I used during the recent ice storm.
Cheers!

I might have to re-shoot that Borla clip because there was some external noise from a car passing too.
It also sounds louder than it is (like mentioned above).
After the passing car almost ran me over I must have got the mic to close!

I had a clip done earlier of the stock, Borla, and Magnaflow. I compared the Quicksilver to the stock, and I swear, it sounds to me like the QS is quieter than the stock by getting rid of most of the tin sound at the upper revs. Also, the Borla sounds COMPLETELY different in the two sound clips.
See ya,

All hail the great MINI community!
I like the sound on the Magnaflow the best. The other two just had to much 'popping' (like most of the ricer wana bees at my school, whom I greatly despise for the mods on their cars, so ugly, slow, and noisy, sound like bumble bees or weed wackers, back on track) like the civics mckinneymini said. But hey its a four cylinder, it can be good, like the magna, or it can be crap (like most imports, note that I said most). If you want the V8 sound, ugggghhhhh, then get a focus and drop one in like they did on speed channel. I heard that thing and thought it was outta place. Putting a B series where a D series was is one thing, but putting a V8 where a four was is another, and I dont like it. Just my opinion, buy whichever you will, none of them are as bad as some (note the some) of the import exhausts.
