Hey Bob...as I'm unable to listen to your clip, how would you compare yours to mine...open/closed valve?

golden child, I don't think there is one on there for Macs to play WMP 10. M$ needs to come out with a WMP 10 verison for Mac before developers can get there hands on the codec to use in other apps. Neither VLC and MPlayer have WMP 10 codecs for Mac. We're stuck in the audio-only realm for now.

The exhaust open is VERY loud ....... This is a "***** to the walls" mode. The closed is sounds like a very agggressive system ... it is hard for me to compare. I am going to the dyno tommorrow at 3:00 and I will shoot some video and record audio (I hope) and I will try to figure out a way to get it too you.

What's the butt dyno say so far ?

Is there any utility in running on the dyno from closed --->open---> closed to see a change in the slope of the torque/h.p. curve?

I am going to the dyno tonight at 7:00 est

the butt dyno says the exhaust as a whole makes power over the Milltek no doubt. The difference between open and closed is really weird...because the sound adds to the speed like "red" is the fastest color. I will say that particularly when you are at the top end it is coming on like a scalded dog at red line. I think the redline could go up to 8K without a problem (maybe blowing something up but it wants tokeep making power..... on the videos I am shifting below 6K on the going away runs ..... the point is mute because I will dyno tonight and give the results to Randy who will be in charge of letting people know where we are so far.

you might try a stop watch between say 50 and 90 mph, same gear (5th?) comparisons.

This is a good idea...............is there another valid speed where I don't have to risk such a large ticket.......say between 40 and 80 in 4th?

Ya...Bob said the same thing but I've listened to my recording and heard the real thing and they're not the same. My exhaust is louder, lower pitched and beefier than the recording. The sound pressure makes a lot of difference the recording can't compensate for. I'm pretty certain that Spidy's open mode will be louder than any exhaust however

Long time listener

Spider,
That thing just rocks. I had been listening to it all day on the laptop speakers, just got home and got to listen on the real speakers.
Randy will have me beating down his door if it is even close to that sound.

Keep up the good work.

Lucky for me I only have to drive 250 miles to have it installed at Randy's Shop.

that was just beautiful... I love this freakin thing man! That thing is sick man... sick! I'm not sure how much I would run it with it open, but closed I would be a bit more open than what you had... I don't know it's all preference. But this is what I wanted my MINI to sound like from the begining, it almost sounds like my dad's M3, which by the way is on order!

I congratulate Randy and SpiderX for a job well done!

Do you feel any power difference between the two when you accelerate?

Chili aka Mikey

I'm curious what would be considered "average" and above average times for these runs

Average for 50-90 in 5th gear on an MCS is.....a long time . I have no idea how long though. Tonight, I'll go out and put in some runs on my car [Cosworth Stage II+ but between software revisions, so just stock tune]. I'll report back. Sounds like a fun 30 minute study break!

I can't comment on the dynos as I think that is up to Randy to do.... I will say that the exhaust DOES make additional power in the "open" position.

Also I went out and did some runs timing 60-90 and the open position was about a full second faster. I did about 4 passes each and that was about the average.......not very scientific/clinical or laboratory like but the price was right. I used a timex "Ironman" watch which is accurate to the .00

Got any absolute numbers? I'm gonna post some tonight, hopefully. I'll give raw numbers cause I don't have that nice little power switch .

edit: I'm done studying and I'm beat, so make that "I'll post tomorrow"...heh! Good night everyone.

I have somewhat mixed emotions on this particular topic... sharing dyno numbers or not. On one hand, you're checking out a prototype product for Randy, and I totally understand the idea of him retaining the right to post dyno results. On the other hand... Lots of people out there have posted dyno sheets on lots of products without anyone else's consent... Randy being one of them. I can only accertain that he's asked you to hold off until... well... until he gets a final production piece put together.... because those are the real numbers any of us should care about.

Just tell us this Spider, if you can.... Does it make at least as much power as the Milltek?

I do understand......... It makes cosiderabley more than the Milltek in the closed position........and then a VERY nice bump in open. Randy has not asked me to hold off as I have not talked to him in a few days and he does not know the first results yet...... I just figure it's his product and he should decide when to "share the numbers." The decision on how loud it will be in "closed" has not been arrived at yet and it is believed that whatever is done to quiet it down will also bring down the power in "closed" position. So I don't want to post numbers that may change.... people are putting in pre orders and I don't want to post numbers that may change.....I'm sure you can see why. Fundamentally, the design goal is being met. Randy originally did not care if it made more power in closed than the MIlltek he just wanted it to "kick butt" in open. I am trying to get into my "old" dyno today (they are open on Sunday) and that will tell us more.

respectfully to all of you,

Bob
