We are full for the list, but if anyone would like to come and check it out, please do. I would love to see some of the dyno software.

We would like all intakes to have equal chances, so using a USED intake (from someone else's car) would be less than desirable. Of course, we will let you know about any updates regarding the availability of the test pieces.
Did you ever hear anything from the dealers or fellow motorers? Is anyone willing to offer their's for the day? it would really be great to see the comparison between all the different intakes! Thanks for putting this all together

I wish we could have, but it looks like the 3 will be it for this one. We plan on a followup in the future. Possibly looking at carb certified intakes or similar.

I will bring my HAI ,not installed, with me. It has less than 100miles on it before i removed it. I would love to see the poor mans intake do just as well as the more expensive ones.

I would love to check it out.

Because it uses the K&N filter, we will not be able to do a write-up on it. This is an agreement we have made with K&N. They will not be able to have a representative at this shootout.

We may be able to test for fun, but not published numbers. There will be a full test with K&N at a later time, open to everyone and with one of their techs.

so you have a tech from alta, m7, and Helix on hand for their intakes? or is this just for the the K&N? how about without an intake like you did with the M7? only with stock intake path?

We have never done this before. The dyno that i think you are talking about was done by an entirely different party.

Why do you have/need an agreement with K&N that prevents someone from bringing the K&N filter that they paid for, clamping it on a car, and posting the dyno results.

Nothing is stopping people from running a K&N on their own car....we are allowing all sorts of cars to be run as personal dynos. If they have a new K&N that they want to evaluate in terms of their personal gains, that's up to them. And hopefully they would share, as many of the people on NAM already have. Surely you will understand that you would need to have a company's permission to actually enter their part into a shootout type article. Anyone can test anything they want on their own cars, and share the numbers however they want.

To include the K&N filters in the test, they would need to be brand new so that there are no irregularities between these filters and the other ones being tested, and so that everything is as fair as possible. I'm sure you are fully aware of this due to your background in this type of thing. In order to keep the playing field level, we determined that all of the parts must be new.

We would have liked to be able to test every company this time around....but it looks like it will have to wait until later.

And to everyone else.....if you are bored and looking for something cool to do, come check it out. We have some people from socaleuro coming too, it should be a good time.

As Rally said, testing and posting the numbers for an individual is possible. We are doing the shootout for an article agreed upon by participating manufacturers. With that, the conditions must be equal and agreed upon by all. One of the conditions is willing participation from all vendors, and because of the installation and information, K&N requested to wait until the next test as SEMA is approaching. We respect their request.

So, even though K&N doesn't market a product for the MINI market called the HAI, and they don't intend for the K&N RU-1520 to be used on the MINI, they need to give you their blessing to include that filter in your tests? Do you need to get permission from Uni filters since their filter is used in the Alta intake? I don't understand the reasoning behind your decision, but it's your intake shootout not mine.

The basic reasoning is that I agreed with K&N to not use Any of their products on this shootout. Because of that agreement, we move into a grey area concerning the HAI. We have 2 options. The first is to wait for a follow-up article that can include both HAI and K&N. Or the second compromise of bringing it down and we will make all attempts to test it. Once tested, the numbers may be posted independant of the formal article written by TEAMMIGHTYMINIZ.

Andy, we must remember, K&N actively markets a CAI developed specifically for the MINI. They do make universal filters, too, one of which _can_ be used for a HAI. Therefore, it is a more complex matter than just with Alta's filter company, who has less vested interest (they don't market their own product).

Either way, we appreciate your interest in the test! It's gonna be a very special event, as we're going to go to great lengths to both ensure the accuracy of the results and to make the process transparent to the community. We are very thrilled to have this opportunity and the personal participation of many of our most respected vendors in the MINI community ! Come on, come all! It'll be hella fun, we promise!

Concerning the Alta question, Alta entered an agreement with Unifilter when Unifilter agreed to let Alta use their filter. We talked to Alta and were given a go ahead. Because of the relationship that Alta has with Unifilter, this can be seen as an agreement by Unifilter via Alta (the company they have decided to let represent them).

If you, the 'inventor' of the HAI, had an agreement with K&N to represent them, then we would view your acceptance of the shootout as a yes from them. However, they have not given out any sort of agreement with people unlike the Alta-Unifilter relation. I hope that you are able to see the differentiation. If not, let me know and we can discuss the topic further in another post or on PM (i know you prefer threads over PM's).

We plan to respect the vendors' request, so the K&N will be tested when they are able to send out a tech (as they requested). All vendors were offered the same terms of agreement, and unfortunately some intakes wont be in the shootout. BUT....we have some great intakes to go up on the dyno, and some information is better than no information.

This dyno will offer pics of install, description of install, grade of install difficulty, sound clips, movies of the dyno, hp numbers, and grade of quality. So even though not ALL of the intakes are being tested (for now ), we will be offering a lot of information in hopes that it helps others...and it gives everyone an excuse to come hang out with some cool people
