Yet another dyno datapoint - Alta 15%, TMIC, Intake, and Milltek, 177whp

177whp
169wtq

Mods: Alta 15% pulley, Milltek exhaust, Alta intake, and Alta intercooler.

I've been told that the Dyno Dynamics dynos read lower than any other dyno out there.

Here's the AF Ratio and Boost graph

Unfortunately I didn't get a baseline for my car before the mods. We will try to get a stock MCS on the dyno ASAP for comparison.

If anyone in the Chicago area is interested on dynoing their car on a VERY nice dyno, send me an email at raudi77 (at) hotmail (dot) com.

I think that video is Mac-friendly only? Or if it's that new H.264 compression, I don't think I can play it with. Running Win2k Pro.

Yeah, you need QT 7 to view h.264.

Us Mac users have it easy - most of the time. Great files. Who was the group on the second video clip?

Macs rock - evrything always just...works.

Sorry, not sure what group/clip you're referring to - can you elaborate?

Dyno Dynamics' Low Readings

Good job. These '05's make some power don't they? Mine made 178hp with a great torque curve also on the same type of low reading dyno. I expect more when I can change the exhaust.

Here's my recent thread on the topic that comfirms others observations about the low reading.

Sweet! Didn't know that was avail. Hope my PC has the power to play H.264, it's not too old, but not cutting edge either.

I was just poking through iMovie and I found a list of about 20 other encoders I could use. Any suggestions for what I should use for the best quality that is playable by MOST people's computers?

I downloaded Quicktime 7 with iTunes and it played the H.264 movies fine. My computer can't play the higher end H.264 encoded HD movies too well, if at all, but the lower quality stuff is fine =) H.264 looks quite nice for it's size/bitrate. I say use it, I don't think there's a better codec right now in relation to size of the file.

Agreed. h.264 is probably the best codec out there. To play HD at full framerate, you pretty much need a G5 (not sure about on the PC side).

I hijacked my own thread, DOH!

Back on track - can anyone comment on the A/F Ratio at lower RPMS? It looks like I might be running fairly lean. Does the MCS use a rising rate FPR? What options do I have to richen up the mixture quicker after getting on boost?

to be honest.. i thought that a car with ur mods would be pumping out more hp. Maybe dyno it after a ecu remap?

What would you estimate that the crank HP should be?

To be honest, I think your 177 wHP is pretty good, and your torque is massive. I did mine last week and got 180 wHP and 160 ft/lbs with way more mods (bummer...) Well, actually many of the same mods (pulley, Milltek, Alta CAI) but also a Unichip and VGS. I don't have the print out to post just now, but the amazing thing was the shift from 14 to 12 in A/F ratio at 4600rpm and the corresponding dips in both HP and torque. THe good thing was that the A/F never dropped below 12--no rich cars here...
Also, I'm told that a good estimate for drive train losses is 11% for a MINI, so your crank HP would be around 200.

cheers,
phil

It *is* a bit more than 177.

177 is at the WHEELS, and on a notoriously pessimistic Dyno Dynamics dyno. Crank horsepower is at least 200 and perhaps even closer to 210. I really have to get a stock MCS on the Dyno for a baseline.

LOL yeah it would suck to only get about 10hp out of these mods!

I'm still spoiled from owning an A4 1.8t. $500 nets you 50hp with an ECU chip on that car.

The $500 chip to get 50hp is due to the TT having ECU controlled boost. Ramp it up, and blam, lots of extra HP. I cant wait until '07/'08.
