seems about right-

randy webb charges 400 total, 119.95 for the pulley, leaves 280, 20 bucks for tax/shipping-sounds like the same price as randy give or take a couple of dollars-if they do a good job, its fine. as an ase master tech, im not sureid doit for much or any less.

Work for a specialist?

The ALTA site indicates an install time of less than 1 hour.
Is $280 per hour too high? In my neighborhood though, $250 is pretty standard (MINI dealer, Mini-Madness, German mechanic shop.
I did find one performance shop that will install the ALTA pulley for $130 labor.

Alta indicates less than 1 hour for the full pulley install? Takes me 3 hours going slow to ensure no mistakes....

if you have done one before or u are named randy u can prolly do it in an hour. i did mine the otherday and it worked out just fine. as for the special tools, i just rented a pulley puller and that was a few bucks but it was fair! $280 is about the goin rate tho

280 sounds too much if they dont specialize in it.

Yeah it does sound kind of high. I got quoted $355 for a 15% pulley, belt tensioner stop bar, and install. Comes out to $220 for the install alone. And they specialize in MINIs, in fact its the only thing they do (MyMINI in Pompano Beach, FL). If the dealer installs the pulley, would they still void your warranty?

the part which confuses me is dollars per hour. dont get me wrong, the 400$ with parts installed ON LOCATION seems fair to me, but what im confused by is that if this can be install in an hour or less by Randy, why cant it be done 1-1.5 hours by any other shop? If that was the case, the proper charge should be 1-1.5 hours MAX. IE: 60$per hour x 1.5 = 180$. Far cry from the 250-300$ most shops charge.

I know this is a more specific install, but I cant see how shops can charge a pulley install price when it should be done by the hour as all other services are charged for.

im not knockin anyones pricing (the convinience of having someone travel to your area, AND brings all the parts/tools justifies the higher charge. But any shop which normally charges by hour for shop time, shouldnt be jackin up the price.

Just my humble opinion of course.

similar reason why the charge 6 g's for a works kit... you get 200hp at the flywheel for 400 bucks... in otherwords... this sounds horrible but the market will bear it... bottom line though is that it is a huge bang for the buck... even if you spend 800 bucks on it... think about it you will spend that much on an exhaust system and you won't even see half the power

True enough. I know i will have no problem forkin over the 400$ if i cant find a local shop to do it for me. Just seems odd. Supply and demand, if you offer it, they will pay :-)

Now, whens the next ontario pulley party
