GIAC (like all chips) is stored in non-volatile memory. So, it won't disappear if you unplug your battery. That said, get hold of a scan tool or someone with a scan tool to find out what fault code(s) you have.

Ok, the CEL popped again today for no reason. I really wasn't driving fast or doing anything out of the ordinary.....I think I may have a bad sensor or something..

I Have the same mods as you. At first it was because of the bosch injectors but then once we switched to JCW injectors it fixed it. But now My check engine light popped up again this week. Its just a code issue with the 05 MCS. If you want call eric, he has had experience with this and will let you know whats going on

Just got the CEL light as well. Will pass on the info when we find out what the code is. I suspect it might have something to do with running too lean below 2500rpms. That's what our dyno showed when we had it installed. We have a 19% and 400cc injectors (high flow head and oversized valves, schrick cam, milltek header/catback, etc, etc, etc). Maybe it was bad gas or something, but it has not gone away after several days of driving(through PA). Will post when I know more.

Since you guys are running the GIAC and experienced with the product, I wanted to ask:
Do you recommend this product?
Will I run into issues with, lean, error codes etc.?
I am running a 15% pulley, and a CAI, not wanting to change injectors, exhaust, or cam.

I've had Giac since Jan. I got SES once but it dissapeared after a few cycles and has never come back.

The error codes can occur in stock vehicles as well. Some faults can be erroneous and don’t trigger a warning light, other codes may be benign and clear themselves and other faults can be serious. Multiple fault codes could point to a faulty harness or connector, and so on.

The Peak Scan Tool is for everyone. It provides information, which minimizes speculation and fear of the un-known, the source of most MINI owner anxiety. It could be said that most MINI sponsored service departments are also a source of un-ending frustration. The Peak Tool combined with a shop manual is some of the most valuable assets at your disposal, even if you don’t own a wrench or intend to use one. Armed with the generated fault code, you can make an informed query post that will maximize the probability of reliable answers from the NAM diagnostic community.

GIAC, JCW injectors, 19% pulley and various other things. Like Andy's VGS, and I have never gotten an SES light. On an early 04.

I think Pat's issue is the same with mine because only on an 05 with GIAC it gives the running to rich error which causes the light to come on.

So it popped again this morning. I don't know anyone that can pull the code for me and I sure as hell don't want to goto my dealer to do it so they can blame whatever is happening on me..

Most of the auto parts chains have code readers for sale for less than $100. And most will read and/or reset your codes for free. Hope this helps.

Did track day yesterday- SES light came on during one run. This is my first run with JCW injectors & GIAC- had 19 pulley for 18 months. The code was P0108- mainfold absolute pressure/ barometric high- sensor high input. Cleared code & it's stayed off after several starts so all seems well.

Had same code about a year ago when a MAP sensor went bad-dealer installed new sensor (at my cost) and all was fine. Wonder if its just the 19 pulley with more boost causing this on the track & not the GIAC??

I completely forgot my CEL popped right before he did the install. It was a knocked senor at the time (if i remember correctly) . I have a feeling its the same problem I had prior to the install

The car is running fine....but this damn bright orange light at night is driving me mad!

Eric is going to help me out on Sunday when I head out to philly

Bad 02 Sensor Sensor 1 Bank 1... anyone know where that exactly is? I doubt the dealer will replace it considering all my mods..

That would be your pre-cat sensor. Look on the driver’s side of the engine near the bundle of stuff on the coolant thermostat for a couple of wires inside a white sheath. The sheath will travel along the side of the exhaust manifold heat shield down to the header and connect to what looks like a spark plug. I’ve replaced mine, it’s a common issue, and you shouldn’t have a problem with a warranty conflict.
