I am hearing that the AGS is quieter than the Alta.....is this true?

I would tend to doubt it. I've heard both, the AGS is much meaner sounding.

If you open up the cowl area, you will get more noise inside the car.

Outside the car, the AGS DOES sound "Meaner"

Yes, I think that would be true to some extent in Wide open throttle.

For regular street driving I think both would be fine.

The rear cowl area is open with the Alta (when installed per normal Alta directions) so some noise travels to the driver especially at wide open throttle- and it's loud. This happens with all intakes with an open rear intake cowl area. Some filters allow for less noise at WOT.

The AGS doesn't rely on air from the cowl area but I have seen a MCS with open cowl area and tubes running down towards the AGS intake filter- this was before the release of the heat shield. Assuming that the cowl area is closed then noise from the bonnet area won't reach the driver as easily and noise would be much less.

All MCS make a fairly loud SC noise from the outside. I've seen videos of various MINIs with different intakes and they are easy to pick out.

If you have an AGS and have an open cowl area then some noise can travel to the driver (if you want it to).

I went from an Alta with the cowl partition removed to the AGS with the cowl partition replaced. The AGS is quite a bit quieter inside the car with the windows up and the A/C on. On the outside however, you can hear it a block away.

With the heat shield in place the sound is projected forward and the interior level is lower than other systems .

Follow up question obviously being 'how often does it need to be cleaned?'

it seems to be different depending on material etc.

I prefer to entertain others with my AGS than myself:smile:
