M7 16% pully installed.

Wow! I took the 2 hour treck to Steve's for my M7 pully. I have been in the auto aftermarket industry all of my adult life and never had the desire to do any mods on any of my cars until the MINI. I must say today the way I see cars has changed forever! Any one that has ever given any thought to a pully mod, I would say it's a must. It almost felt, no it felt like I was driving a different car. It sounded different and in all six gears there was more power and faster response. I drove home with a smile on my face:smile: (It took almost 2hrs). I had the pleasure of meeting a few of you and see some NICE MINI's MINI-d, Cosworth. El diablito's and Randy's(M7) to name a few your MINI's not only are fast but eye candy as well . A SPECIAL thanks to Steve and his crew, the food was great. Thank you, -George

Congrats. I wanted to make it up there to get a pulley installed as well, but I'm waiting to hear back from GIAC on whether or not I can use one of their chip programs with a 16% pulley, first. Do you have any plans to dyno your ride?

I'm leaning toward the M7 Tech Pulley as well. It has a nice list of well thoughtout features. As a lifelong car guy, was there anything about it that surprised you? impressed you? disappointed you?

M7 has put alot of thougth in the added design features. I had the stock pully so I cant say if there is a big difference between 15% and 16% reduction, but oh the difference stock and 16%. I will pay a visit to an old friend and have it dyno'd soon. I also have the M7 scoop that kept the I/C very cool after a 2hr hard drive. The guys at M7 have been very helpful, Randy also gave me one of those M7 Tuning badges that replaces the MINI badge over the valve cover.

I also had the M7 16% pulley installed today along with some IK-22 plugs. The car definitely pulls harder! The thing I like most is the increased drivability. The mid-range punch and the low-end torque is increased, making the car scoot around town a lot more easily.

The power is good, though - especially at ~5000 rpm in 4th.

It was a nice upgrade, and it will complement the other things I plan on doing to my car.

I've driven fast cars - such as purpose-built formula-type cars that go 0-60 in under 4 seconds. The MINI isn't going to be like that. I think most people understand that.

What's is your problem with that phrase Kaelaria? If people honestly feel that something makes that big a difference, why be a-- about it.

OK, so it's because most of us don't know what a fast car is or have never driven in one and you can't stand it, correct?

It is pretty demeaning, man. Just cool it and let people enjoy their mods.

It seems to me that there are always two sides to every story; the romantic side and the truth. Both have there place here and together they help to define how a product feels or works based upon opinion, and not a dyno. I think both opinions are extremely valuable and necessary. No one was singled out and the pulley wasn't bashed as a "waste" of money.

Each of us will invest a certain portion of time and money with our Minis. What we expect and where we want to go is personal. So, I prefer the cold truth, and, the romance!

It was nice to meet both of you at Steve's and you are now on your way to Mini modding. I am glad that you both felt the pulley was a worth while upgrade. Though not earth shattering it is still one of the biggest bangs for the buck .

Hay I was excited over 32 MINI's in one place and it wasn't a dealership. So take it easy on me! Some day when a "fast car" falls in my lap I will say the MINI was a slow car.

Out of curiosity, would one typically reset the ECU upon installation of a pulley? It seems as though it would be a good idea.

Also, it would be very nice if the pulley was made to look stock for those non-mod-friendly dealers out there.

Great idea I wonder if a reset would make a difference. To reset do you just unplug the battery?

After doing any pulley upgrade most of us do not bother to reset the ECU. You can disconnect the battery if you like. The ECU will learn and adjust anyway.

The stock pulley is planted black and is stamped steel and "large" in comparison to even a 15% reduction pulley which is usually machined alloy and doesn't resemble the stock pulley at all. The size alone is a dead give away and the allen key bolts are another since the stock pulley is a pressure fit with no bolts.

No, it's a little more involved - see this thread post #21 or 22: https://www.northamericanmotoring.co...&highlight=v39

I just had a VW flashback today and remembered that I was told to reset the ECU after each mod, such as a CAI, exhaust, etc.
