Drivetrain Official ALTA Q&A thread!
Sorry for the slow delay! Been swamped...
Larry, the top is about 3 weeks or less away. Black and siliver is a go! You are on our list, and i will make sure to let you know when they are done.
CARB will be done by SEMA this year. Summer is what we are shooting for, but SEMA for sure.
ebock,
Yes, for sure. There hasn't been any back to back tests of the CAI and JCW. But with our intake tube alone we see 5WHP with the stock intake. We see the same gain on our intake(minus the tube) So no matter what the intake tube would be a good idea. The air box i think can be improved. You will see that the filter in our kit is not paper, like the JCW, it is bigger than the JCW, and the opening for the intake tube, and the opening for the CAI part are much bigger on ours. So there should be a gain. If you didn't ahve one at all then it woud be an easy sell simply because the price.
If you are willing to do a test of back to back dyno runs, let us know, we can provide you with an intake.
Petrich,
If you have our newer endlinks which are hex shaped then, the change in length in the front isn't as critical with a lowered car. This is because we change the rod ends we use to the original ones with a higher rotation. But with the fronts, make them longer. The rears make them shorter. If you lower the car 1", adjust the links in their correct direction .5"-1".
kseckel99,
The sucking sound is perfectly normal. As is the slight whistle at part throttle. The stock Airbox is designed to be silent so when you get rid of the box, out comes the roar of the Supercharger!

Thanks,

Thanks,
I made a video a few weeks back of my car. I have a Alta 15%, CAI, and MyMINIExhaust.
Do you hear the sounds you are describing in this vid?

You shift a lot faster than I do.
It's when I put clutch in, shift and that's when I hear it. I'm still trying to nail it down. Maybe I need to tape it? Just need a recorder now.
Thanks for helping out. I don't know if the 'noise' is something to worry about or not. Don't think so but just in case.

We have had many customer purchase the silicone hose that own the JCW intake. We don't say it fits, but it does.
The noise that kseckel99 is talking about isn't going to be as loud in the Auto. But at part throttle that whistle noise is very normal. There is this one kind of weird area in the throttle that it occurs. But nothing to worry about.

I just installed the silicone hose on my JCW intake.
I had to trim the bottom side a bit so it would mate correctly with the throttle body. Just match it up to the old hose and you'll see what I mean.
Then really tighten down on the hose clamp, as the Alta hose is a bit oversized on both ends.

I have an MCSa and have the whistle too. More of a high-pitched ringing sound too me. It almost sounded like I hadn't tightened something down as a washer was vibrating on a bolt, causing a metallic high-pitched ringing. Curious to me at first, but it's normal.
BTW, put me on the list for a silver one!

I just bought an ALTA CAI w/ Blue hose and will be installing it tomorrow hopefully. I noticed that two decals were shipped with the intake, which is cool. Here is my problem though - I would love to put these decals on my car to support a brand I like, but the ALTA logo (IMO) could use an update. It seems a little outdated. Sorry to be so vain, and I do love the products you provide to the MINI community!
jd72277,
No problem. You will see something different pretty soon!
Dariyboy,
You can, but the results will be much better with the over sized pulley. The faster the SC spins the more HP it is sucking up. Yes you gain some with the boost, but that is what the turbo is for!
