Miltek exhaust made quieter?

I put 400 mi on the Mini today all over North GA. I have to say the new head and cam have added some extra life but the car is loud. I thought I read somewhere that there is a mod for the Miltek that quiets it up some. Does any one know about this or better yet have experience with it?

Apart from the JCW, the Milltek is about the quietest it gets in terms of in-cabin loudness. 'course, you do also have the Milltek header, which adds about 6dB of exterior loudness at WOT.

You can always pull the tips out from the rear valence some, that will quiet down the interior volume. I'm not familiar with any 'modification' to the Milltek to make it quieter (it's already quite quiet!)

HTH,
Ryan

I do know one sure fire method. Install that Milltek on my MINI.

You can even have my stock system in exchange! That should quiet down your car a bit.

Does your exhaust tips have enough clearance with the rear bumper?

I've been in a few different MINI's with different exaust systems and other than the stock I'd have to say the Milltek is the least loud. Funny thing is it produces the best overall performance of the group out there.

Mine is in the mail.

The Borla street was much quieter. I think I am getting some kind of resonance. I may need some kind of grommet to isolate it better. My friend with a Magnaflow and no header is quieter inside the car.

Spider:

My Milltek looks like it hangs down about a 1/4" or so more than yours appears to. When cold, my tips stick out just enough so that the "Milltek" logos are visible.

From looking at your pictures, I would say that your tips (cold) stick out a little bit more than mine do when they are hot. If the tips are rubbing on the rear valence, trim the little lip off of it with an X-acto knife, or add some washers under the outside hangers.

FWIW: I have the header and the catback and it is only slightly louder than stock at cruising or idle. It doesn't get loud until you get on it.

Thanks,

Mine is the loudest Mini I have been in. I think I need more isolation or something. This car is far from stock and 4 times louder than the Borla street. I think some spacers and rubber isolation will help. Thanks to all who posted because now I know that I need some adjustments
