Think of it this way.......You paint a car when your completly done with the body work right......Same concept with welding....You finish all your welds prior to coating the piece your working with. Dont worry about welding the cat on after you coat the header being your bolting the cat with a flange you just welded it too.

I could be wrong but I think 1FSTMINI was saying not to worry because you won't actually be welding on the header at all- you are welding the flange and the cat which is then bolted to the header....right?

Still waiting to hear back from MINIAACK to see if he is happy with the header...

OK, I just read through all 14 pages of this thread , so forgive me if I missed something but which Random Cat was the correct one to use with this setup? I think someone posted that one of the two was too big, but I didn't see which one was the best option.

TIA

There is no welding on the coating just the flange that attaches to the cat. The cat bolts to the header. I'm just clamping it to get it to the shop for welding, so I dont lose my hearing and attract attention on the freeway. Should work out okay, for a temporary fix.

Went back to one-ball and stock cat...

and boy is it QUIET. Not much louder than just the one ball itself. To answer all as to why I did this, I'm working through larger TB issues on the V41 software (I think it's v41, but it's an emission recal fixed 02 s)... That and the deafening noise from the nearly straight pipe exhaust...

Power is down a bit, but I have no clue how much. And for what it's worth, the less restrictive exhaust has a much more pronounced flat spot with the large TB. I'll be logging data tomorrow, and I have a 60mm to test as well....

I think the too big was a mistake...

We have a blown motor, it flows like a 3 liter 6. I used a Magnaflow OBD-II cat, and it "fit" and "lit-off" just fine, and it was rated up to 390 cu in. I think the dimensional constraint is more what you worry about, than the cat capacity. But that's just me....

If you really want an answer you can trust, call up the tech support lines for some of the cat manufacturers at redline, our cars can suck about 11000 liters/min, or about 400 cfm. (This assumes a peak boost of about 15 psi, but this is a good guide for the eye....

Hope this helps.

The info you seek is on page 8 Post # 189.

I just had my adaptor flange for using band clamps made up yesterday. This will allow for easy replacement of the CAT if needed or to put a test pipe in it's place. I intend to post pictues and measurements.

All I need now is a free day to remove OEM, final fit, triming and install.

This is frustrating but I will have to remake the adaptor flange. I started prepping it and discovered the pipe is not perpendicular to the flange.:impatient

Keep looking, and one of the two vendors (one is Weaponspeed, the other one is Sparktec). Sparketec has their own web site and appears to have them in stock.

http://www.sparktecmotorsports.com/headers1.html

He has both, the header and the exhaust listed, here's the header:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/OBX-R...7897QQtcZphoto

And here's the exhaust:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/OBX-C...8933QQtcZphoto

Maybe tell him you want to buy it but you would like to know if he ever sent the missing pieces of your buddy's order in Canada?

Matt, you have a good eye, I'm sure the parts are on the way, it will take a long time with USPS, it always does, but you're right, I'm not in a panic, but I sure hope they didn't forget about me.

Just to complicate your life - before you buy the OBX header there is another header being offered on EBAY for 200.00.

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Stain...spagenameZWDVW

Some have said it looks like the PILO header - I don't know that but I do know it looks like the header being offered by MTH.

So you have your choice between two designs 4-2-1 or 4-1

But the price is nice! Who's gonna do a low buck header shootout?
