Don't worry it is the herd mentality of the Mini community. Everyone will talk about how they are heading over to the M7 intake (money is in the bank and they are just waiting to hand it over to someone), which by the way beats every intake made by anyone, either past or future for every car ever made (even though almost no one has ever seen one). The M7 intake will be released and then we won't see many posts about it for a while, and then a few will trickle about here and there. Check out the UUC exhaust threads, M7 free device, Unichip,....... Almost no one ever lives up to the massive hype that this community generates.

Dont know about the UUC exhaust but I have the M7 device and the unichip. Unichip DEFINETELY makes a different.... dont know about the device as I installed it at the same time as my pulley, intake, exhaust, and unichip. I have done drives with the unichip off and with the unichip on and it definetely gives you some more top end power.

when the intakes first showed up, there were claims of 12hp gains. that has been shown to be an un-repeatable measurement after many independent dyno runs. In reality you might be getting 7hp from the Alta. In terms of flow alone, the $30 HAI seems to match anything. In terms of cold air, there have been some presentations demonstrating that the intake temp is of little concern in comparison to the heat added by the blower and the work done by the intercooler.

The M7 device seems to clean up the intake airflow more than anything else since it addresses the last bottleneck. It looks like a $300 solution, but it isn't clear yet if you also need a CAI to go with it. dyno runs have yet to be presented, but it is conceivable that in conjunction with a free flowing filter you could see 10hp; it really depends on how much that bottleneck was restricting flow. If your engine can't use the extra air because of other limitations (exhaust valves, port limitations) increasing the potential air flow is useless. there have been a couple of reports that cleaning up the interior of that runner improved power, but the measure was only subjective, no dyno work. Maybe M7 will finally clear it up.

Hey...sorry. Not trying to be mean No need to be offended...Just trying to help you. I thought you posed the question on the 24th, Dec 04? The M7 AGS discussion has been going on for well over a month

I have only seen the thread M7 started a few hours after I started mine. I was mainly trying to figure out what everybody prefered and with the AGS going for $300 I am not so sure that it will be worth it seeing as how you can get a CAI and Pulley for the same $ that will be alot more power, I know the AGS along with a Pulley will be killer.

You make some valid points JLM and thank you for the post. To clear up a few more areas the finished unit will of course have a filter and shield assembley eliminating the need for an additional CAI. We have a local testing facility ready and waiting for us to bring in our AGS as well as the samples of the other leading products currently on the market which we have acquired for head to head comparitive flow testing. We do apologize for the delay in all this but we feel that we all will be better off in the long run by taking the time to do it right the first time. We will release as much information as we can as fast as we can and the AGS is truly our number one priority at this time even though the things just over the horizon are truly impressive

so for $300 bucks you get rid of the bottleneck and get a CAI plus all the fittin's.

Makes the Alta at $265 seem like a very questionable buy, by comparison.

The main or sole reason Peter named it a "system", as opposed to an intake, or CAI, is because it addresses the path into the SC as well. I think the most any of us had done previously (me included) was to Dremel-out some of the rough material at the runner's openning...

With a shorter distance to travel, wider ID (I believe), cleaner/smoother interior surfaces, flow should be less inhibited. I also think Peter incorporated a variable ID to speed things up a little more, a la a velocity stack.

It would seem that the ingredients are there to make this the #1 performer. I hope to get one soon. I have a Rogue/Madness from which to compare...
