IAT Rise with Aftermarket Intercooler

Hey guys, I grabbed a larger intercooler off a forum member here to try to help out with some of the heat soak the factory one suffers from as I was planning on tracking the car this season. Thankfully plans have changed and I now have a dedicated track car but I've still got it installed regardless and noticed something really odd with my intake temps now that I'm checking them.

I have a Manic stage 2 tune, running on Map B and a 3rd gear pull from 2000rpm will see my intake temps rise from 65 (1-2 over ambient) to 80+, continuing to stay in boost in 4th gear will see temps rise over 105. This was advertised as an Ebay intercooler but considering the size increase over OEM I expected a helluva lot better performance. My question for everyone here is what do you see with a Manic Stage 2 for intake temp increases? Are you using the stock IAT in the stock location? Is this expected or did I just manage to grab a terribly shitty core?

There's a bunch of data here: https://www.northamericanmotoring.co...iscussion.html

There's a heck of a lot more to intercooler design than just size. Results with the knockoffs from eBay have been mixed.

Thought I'd update this thread, I finally got around to installing the Wagner IC I've had laying around for a few months when I had the front end apart for other stuff.

Having the two side by side it was easy to see why the knockoff performed so poorly, less rows per inch vertically and horizontally. The fin density on the Wagner is also fantastically higher. Went out and did some test pulls and subsequent map B runs see ~10 degree rise over ambient. Miles better than the 60-100 I was seeing before. With the Aquamist running I actually see temps start to plummet below ambient which is cool. Hah pun not intended.

Great. Can you show pics of the twos side by side to see the difference?

With the Wagner already installed I can't snap pics of the fin density, didn't think about it when I was throwing it on. If someone else wants to post up a shot of the in/outlet port on a Wagner I'll post up some of the knockoff intercooler before I toss it for comparison.
