Drivetrain Turbo question
Turbo question
Do you guys have any idea which turbo I'm running here? The guy I bought the car from said it's a ported & polished BW, but I never learned what size. If it helps, it spools up to 21-22 PSI around 3000-ish RPM.
Yes, the tag looks gone and someone painted it blue on the cool side, looks oem but might have a turbine/fin upgrade.

yes, i was just thinking that, hopefully you have the heat shield to put back I would not run without it. It will cook the valve cover front and possibly warp out the hood scoop even more.

Let me clarify, that's how the turbo was when I purchased the car. I think the guy that installed all the upgrades just failed to put that shield back on.

Thanks for the update.
Yes, from the outside it does look stock except for the blue paint. So that shield should work great.

I have one of WMW's blankets under my stock heat shield....some people just put the blanket on and leave the shield off....you might ask Way for some guidance on that approach. Also, is the lower heat shield missing as well? If I remember correctly, the lower shield is actually two halves, one facing the engine and one facing the radiator. Wonder if the previous owner just left everything off when he reinstalled the turbo after having it ported, polished, and painted..... The lower portion shields the heat from the catalytic convert...I would think that it could be a problem running without it....esp during high ambient temperatures and running slowly, like in traffic.

Alta has a fabric shield. I. Used it. The factory shield is impossible. I wrapped my down pipe in high heat fabric. It’s hot under there but not impossible to work on the car, and nothing up top melted.
Alta version went nla. I would run a shield or something, still gets hot under there cat or no cat.

Alta no longer available.
They don't have the fabric blanket anymore? That sucks. Using the blanket and the hi-temp wrap is the best. Well you need a shield of some kind and hopefully you left the rear shield bolted to the underside of the engine. You now need something to protect the fan and radiator and something up top.

Ok,
There is a universal T3 and T4 tubo blankest you can make fit, but it does not cover everything, scroll to the bottom.

Way Motor Works has a fabric heat shield. I have one under the factory shield, but you could also run only this shield. With the proximity of the hot side to the plastic valve cover, you should have some kind of shield on there.
