According to the Mini info,

Stock MCS boost is .8 bar which is approx 11.6 psi
JCW stage 1 boost is .9 bar which is approx 13.1 psi

Do these figures include the "overboost" feature, or does the overboost take it even higher?

Scott, those figures are reported in the Mini literature and Mini writeups including car & driver, road & track etc. I am not sure about overboost which makes these numbers tricky.

'07's that haven't been to the dealership for updates will see ~15.5PSIg
'08's will see ~12PSIg
'08 w/ JCW Stage 1's will see ~14PSIg

^^^That's all "Overboost". Normal boost is a paltry 8.5-ish PSIg. YMMV depending on climate and mods.

The MCS's all taper to about 8PSIg at 6500 RPM, whereas the JCW Stage 1 tapers to 9PSIg at redline.

I've wondered about this too. I took my 07 to the dealership last year for the installation of the multifunction wheel (it's an early 07 ) and performance was noticeably lower ever after. I'd swear the overboost is no longer there. The lower level of performance definitely reduced the torque steer, but I'd rather have it back .

Any more details on why this was done?

I could only speculate it was to increase the performance gap from Cooper S to JCW models. As it stands now you need to buy the JCW Tuning kit to get back the bulk of the '07 MCS ECU tune. Another possibility is some high-up party pooper found out the MCS puts out significantly more power and torque than advertised and wanted to pull it back to reduce the potential for warranty work. The irony is BMEP has nothing to do with the two main design problems of the Prince engine [HLAs and chain tensioner]. The only backlash is on the grassroots level when guys like us find out MINI lowered the torque output.

2007 MCS with NM Eng Intake mods.

I boost to just under 16.

Idle at -20

upon gas release and slow down -22

easy riding -10

and, not sure if this is obvious, but, i am at about 0 when i hit the gas, and right before the turbo starts spooling

the 07 seems a lot better than the 08. you get more boost and a LSD

IIRC, the boost pressure can vary based on the atmospheric pressure(altitude), which is why some people see higher boost than others.

Correct. The car runs off the absolute manifold pressure which is atmospheric pressure + boost. The car will peak at the same manifold pressure under all conditions.

At sea level atmospheric pressure is 14.7psi. With altitude this drops significantly, meaning cars running at altitude will be able to make more boost. This does not mean they are making more power, as the manifold pressure will still be the same.

Likewise, atmospheric pressure can vary quite dramatically if depending on prevailing weather conditions, ie if you are currently having a high pressure or low pressure weather system.
