Drivetrain craven dipstick reading high
craven dipstick reading high
I picked up a craven dipstick and it's reading higher than my stock dipstick, if I used the craven one I would be running 1/2 quart low all the time
anyone else had this? Are there multiple versions and I got shipped the wrong one?
car is an R53

Mine is the same. However, I measured it against my original stick and they're the same length so I'm not sure what to think. I've adjusted what I think I need to see on the Cravenspeed to keep the level correct and occasionally use the old one to double check. I did call Cravenspeed about it and they would have been happy to let me return it, but I don't want to use the old stick and put it through the heat cycles that seem to make them brittle.
I think they are preparing us for the next election....
Lowered expectations!!
Honestly....make sure you are not pushing too far or not enough on BOTH of them...the OEM can go a bit too low with age...
Maybe hold them side by side....compre lengths....
But imo oil levels is such an inexact thing, as long as you can read YOUR dipstick, you are good.
when I do my next change I'll measure oil going in exact to spec whatever the spec is and then see which dipstick is right

Wooops - sorry for the hijack. Now, back to regularly scheduled whatever.
My craven speed is the same way, if it says full I'm actually low and need to add some. My oil consumption is pretty low though so I don't worry about it too much and double check it with the oem stick from time to time. I had a fiberglass dipstick break once, fortunately it broke with some sticking out of the tube so I didn't have to pull the front end off to fish it out, but it definitely alerted me to the fact that they can and do break.
The craven stick is the correct length, but it drops deeper in to the sump as it hangs straight down from the stick tube. The stock one stays at an angle because it doesn't flex. Just fill up to the stock stick's max and see where it is at with the craven stick. Should be good.
Same here... I usually use my finger or a piece of paper to see (or rather feel) where the level is on the stick...
