Reduce power steering Assist

Hey all,
I have a 2011 Cooper S (for 9 months now & love it).
Is there a way to reduce power assist ala Sport Mode withOUT changing engine?
It seems possible but.....
Thanks, Jed

Thanks--follow up

Thanks for reply.
I am hoping the stiffen the steering withOUT having to engage "Sport Mode". Thus more responsive handling while NOT changing engine.

I'm wondering if this possible using NCS Expert. Maybe someone will chime in.

Just out of curiosity why would you not want the responsive throttle?

Not sure about the OP but for me, my Manic tune enables nearly everything the sport button does (lower coolant temps and throttle mapping, etc.) but I wish it always tightened up the steering. That way the sport button would only turn on and off the exhaust pop and gurgle.

What is "Manic" tuning.
I like the more responsive steering but I have plenty of throttle response. Adjusting the electric power steering should be doable. I have an older OBD-2 Bluetooth device but I should invest in newer one that I could use with some software/apps that might be able to do this, I.e. NCS.
Cheers, Jed

Probably because he prefers the more linear throttle response of the standard mode.

Sports mode does not make any more power, it just changes the throttle percentage relative to the pedal position.

I have a GP2 that is a dedicated rally car, and a JCW that is dedicated racecar. For both I prefer the non-sport mode, as it allows more careful modulation of throttle input in the midrange, to balance the car mid corner and feeding power on. In both modes full power is there is you push it to the floor!

Manic should be able to alter the steering response. Manic by default changes the throttle mapping to always sport mode but you can ask them not to do this. I do prefer the linear throttle mapping myself.

Manic is a company that tunes the ECU for secondary generation MINIs with either the N14 or N18 engines. It is flashed over the OBD2 port. The are currently the only company that can flash the N18 ECU over the ODB2 port.

Typically there are 4 tunes that are loaded and you can switch between them on the fly. Each tune is slightly more aggressive than the next.

1. Stock tune
2. Map A
3. Map B
4 Map C

The tunes are what people call "canned" tunes but they are tailored to the modifications of your car. You have to go through a Manic dealer to get the tunes loaded. Typically the tune are $500-$600 plus $200 for the switch device.

See www.manicmini.com for a list/map of dealers.

I found this interesting link

They talk about this and show a simple solution.
Seems very promising.

I'd be leery on doing something like that. There has to be a way to adjust it via software.

I just looked at NCS Expert and the EPS computer module is for the electro-mechanical power steering. There are some settings that can be adjusted, not sure what does what yet, but there is a sport setting.

I FUBAR'ed by NCS Expert installation when I upgraded to Windows 10, I plan on down-grading back to Windows 7 next week, since I only boot to windows to use NCS Expert.

When I do I'll report back.

NCS Expert is totally independent of the tune. Most people use if for mostly "trivial" changes such as one touch roll up windows and sunroof, disabling bulb out warnings, turning off the over estimation on the speedometer. Or retrofitting and enabling options that were not originally in the car, or are European options.

I reinstalled NCS Expert and read the EPS modules. Not sure what to change to always have the sport steering response. Ideas anyone?
