Best Budget Spark Plug Wires and Spark Plugs

My car has the what seems to be common #3 lead corrosion problem and I have decided that instead of getting a stock replacement I'm going to be going with a msd coil pack. Now the msd wires to go along with that pack are pretty expensive, and I was wondering if there were any good alternatives on the cheap. I also saw that you can make your own wires? Also I am looking to get some new spark plugs while I'm at it and to prepare for a future supercharger pulley upgrade I would like to get cold temp spark plugs. I found this set - http://www.madnessmotorworks.com/min...m-spark-plugs/ and I was wondering if their are cheaper options. If you can't tell I'm new to all of this so any and all help is appreciated. Thanks!

First, I would not use the MSD Coil unless it also comes with the special bolts needed to mount it. I had MSD on first Mini. Now I use Scream'n Demon coil because it does not need special bolts. What is important is to get a coil with brass terminals to help eliminate future corrosion. Stock wire are fine. I used aftermarket wires just to add some color. For spark plugs I suggest NGK.

Pelicanparts.com has a kit (coil, wires, and plugs) P/N PEL-MINIIGNK-01N for $121.
WWM has a kit for $175: http://www.waymotorworks.com/wmw-ignition-package.html

Coil:
Scream'n Demon Coil ($88)

Pelicanparts.com has Beru coil for $45

Basic wires:
WWM for $59:

Pelicanparts.com for as low as $29.

Spark Plugs:
NGK BKR6EQUP or one step colder for JCW (pulley) BKR7EQUP:
Set of 4 at WWM for $50:

Pelicanparts.com has them for $10.50 each.

The Mini coil is the same as used by Chrysler on the 2.0l SOHC engine used in the Neon, PT Cruiser and Dodge Stratus. Here's an example:

The msd pack that I'm looking at does come with new bolts and honestly I also like it for the color(matches car). I thought I saw somewhere that if you get non msd wires to go with the pack then you have to make the holes on the connectors bigger? http://www.madnessmotorworks.com/min...msd-coil-pack/
I guess I should also ask is there any real reason to go with the msd one over say one of the ones recommended above?

Spark plug wires are one of the last places I would look to 'go cheap.' They are essential to proper functioning of the engine.

They're cheaper elsewhere

When I had a MSD Coil I used non-MSD wires without any problems.
MSD is fine as long as it comes with bolts. No advantage over other coils with brass terminals.

The MSD coils don't fit correct as the stock bolts won't fit. So you end up with a hodgepodge of bolts washers and rubbers to try and mount it. Also the MSD coils are the ones that we had failures. So we use the screamin demon that we special do so the stock bolts will fit it.

But if someone has to have red we do sell them.

Sorry to bring this thread back but I had to take care of something so I put my search on hold for awhile. I just looked up the product that you listed on amazon and it shows up that it will not fit my car? Would I have to do something extra to get it to fit?

What year and model is your car? Any JCW or other engine mods?

2005 R52 convertible s. Only mod currently is a Cai, but I plan to do a pulley hence the colder temp plugs.

Amazon will only show that the NGK BKR6EQUP fits the Mini Cooper S. Amazon does not appear to know that there is a JCW model of the Mini Cooper S that uses a different (colder) plug NGK BKR7EQUP. The BKR7EQUP will work fine in your car once the Pulley is installed. I would not install the colder plugs until the pulley is installed.

OK that's what I figured I just wanted to be sure. What problems would I run into if I use it with the colder plugs without the pulley? I only plan on going a few weeks without it.
