Drivetrain Success ! JCW Engine + Big Hybrid turbo into MCS
Success ! JCW Engine + Big Hybrid turbo into MCS
I switched out DV and MAP sensor on my engine swapped MCS, and now it works great!
Pulls like a slingshot -- I've never driven a FWD that felt this quick. In traffic, it feels faster than my Porsche, once it's in boost at least.
Now I gotta do the suspension for AX this spring. Anyone have a recommendation for rough road capable coilovers?
Here's my final drivetrain setup, running well.
2011 JCW Engine
JMTC E45HP Turbo, ported on hotside to match DP flange
Ported JCW exhaust manifold
2.5" catless DP
JCW MAP sensor
stock MCS DV (BOV)
No name big intercooler
intercooler noise suppressor replaced with straight pipe
Alta AP running stage 3 octane 92 map
JCW clutch
Everything else is stock 2007 MCS.

Sounds great. Do you have any dyno numbers

Going to move to fatter, sticker tires. Also, the bombed out 160k suspension's gotta be replaced with something, anything better. Will look into the Ohlins.
Will shoot some video once I get her all cleaned up.
AP Stage 3 isn't bad though, but it is laggy and jarring when the boost hits.I need to log my AFRs to see what's really happening.
Ha. Sounds great. Congratulations on the swap. I, for one, was definitely skeptical that you would make it work out. In this case, glad to be proven wrong.
So there's a record for people who want to do this in future, all you did to get it working was swap the MAP to resolve the boost cuts?
Please report back if you have and solve any other issues. Like the others, also curious if you ever put it on a dyno.

I have only gotten it up and running the past day, but will be learning more as I go. Going to tackle running gear and tires next. A dyno will happen once I'm ready to look into a new tune.
Planning to make it a DD+AX car.

Which map sensor did you swiched?
it's the tmap sensor on hardpipe or the map sensor on intake?
Thanks!
Sorry, been busy. Hit a pothole that took out my passenger side tie rod!
Car is running ok around town, very quick once on boost. Highway kind of sucks though, the AP stage 1 tune I'm running has a nasty boost cut that pops up when you go WOT in higher gears. Almost a bit dangerous because it feels as if it's hitting a brick wall.
I am looking into getting a proper tune done once I get the suspension fixed.

Just to make sure, are you sure it's the tune? Typically the boost cuts are a result of problems with the ECU boost requested/received, not a function of the tune (that's usually what people mean).
Could this be similar to problems others have had when they install a larger turbo? Seems strange that the boost would be tuned to cut-out that abruptly by anyone.

Cool. Still hoping for you to be successful. Keep us posted.
Not really.... it looks bone stock, with the exception of the intake and intercooler. Everything else done to the car is visually identical to what was in there before, just new looking.
Hi - This all sounds quite interesting :-). I googled your turbo and read up the website. If I understand correctly, your turbo has a standard sized exhaust housing and standard exhaust turbine wheel, but comes with a more efficient inlet wheel which is billet? I was looking at going for one that had the larger exhaust housing and turbine wheel, which in terms of the website is called their, K04. Best of luck with your project :-)

I had a K04 turbo on my 09 JCW and then switched to the E45. Dynoed the K04 to approx. 245 bhp with my Ultimate Chip. It felt fast. When I switched to the E45, it feels like less power but have not dyno'd it. Looking for my Battle Tune stage 3 soon and 3" exhaust to get my power back.
