Muffler Help

I ordered a Magnaflow Exhaust from amazon and it's a little too long (18"). I just came back from the muffler shop and the guy said that I needed the 14." I was hoping to deaden the noise more, but it's whatever.

I need a single 2.5" in and dual 2.25 out, but the only one that I thought I could use was the one I got (part # 12258).

If I got this:
http://www.magnaflow.com/02product/s...=main&id=11406

Would they be able to change the dual 2.5" down to 2.25"?

This could be an option too:
http://www.magnaflow.com/02product/s...=main&id=11404

Just possibly change the single 2.25" in to 2.5."

Thanks

what is your setup going to be? im assuming, from what you said, that you have a 2.5 pipe coming back from the cat, (manifold/header/test pipe if youre running catless) which will be routed into the muffler shown here, and then... split to two 2.25 pipes routed out the back... or is the muffler going to have its 2.25 tips coming out the back?

in the event you are trying to lessen the noise level, (not always, but generally) smaller pipes will be quieter. so, without taking the time to research, given the options youve provided, most likely the second option would be best.

the shop will be able to mate youre existing 2.5 piping to the 2.25 opening on the muffler with either an adapter and/or some welding. then you can do whatever youre planning to do with the dual 2.25 outs.

in any case, what is making it so loud that you are exploring these options?

im also curious why the extra 4" on the muffler you chose made that much of a difference. of course, it all depends on what you were asking for as far as placement, but if youre not too picky, usually they can make it work.

Sorry, I should've explained my situation I recently relocated my battery to my trunk and am now going for a straight pipe. I'd like the pipe to be 2.5" and I already have my tips which are 2.25" which explains why i need a 2.5" single in and dual 2.25" out.

The muffler is a bit too long and, with the tips attached, would stick out way too much. There's barely any room under there as it is. The control arms block the muffler from moving down any further. I measured before and thought it would work, but having the product in hand changed everything.

I also bought a magnaflow round muffler (resonator) along with it to quiet it down that is 22" long which is definitely going to work.

I really appreciate your feedback! I'll probably order my other muffler as soon as I return the long one.

ohh. nice. ive been considering doing the battery box delete. how did that work out for you? if you want to share in a pm how you did it, id be happy to hear.

and with that being your case, i would suggest going with option 1 with the 2.5 in and out. its all personal preference. the 2.25 might be a little quieter, but the 2.5 will give you a little better flow through the majority of the pipe. thrn, depending on the tips, i dont see why they wouldnt be able to mate 2.25 tips to 2.5 outs.

i would maybe double check with the shop and see what they think. in theory, both ways would certainly work. the only issue i could see going with the 2.5 in/out, would be the amount of space to place the conversion peices between the muffler and the tips... but that could be solved by moving the muffler a few inches more towards the front of the car.

its hard to say without being able to have everything in front of you, but in my opinion, either way will work. just tell the shop your thoughts and go from there. good luck.

I'm glad you found it! It was an all day project, but it was fun!

I decided to go with the 2.25" in/ 2.25" dual out. It's less work for the muffler shop and the alignment will be on par for the exhaust tips.

I'm doing an "exchange" with amazon, and even though I have to pay for $13 shipping back, it's not that bad! For that heavy thing it should be more. Hell, I paid $12 for shipping my rubber exhaust hangers!

I just finished priming and painting my round resonator and I think it looks pretty good! I'll post some pics in a different thread tomorrow when I have good lighting.

nice. glad it worked out.

i agree. the 2.25 should work well and give you a nice sound/tone. and very true about less work for the shop.

looking forward to the pics.
