Got the burnt tips from the muffler shop, Performance Muffler in Phoenix. They had them in stock and I'm sure they could point you to their vendor. They charged me $70 for the tips and $40 to remove the muffler and replace it with a custom fitted straight pipe.

What did they do in terms of using the exhaust hanger to support it? Did they weld in a new one or....?

The hanger right where the muffler is attached to the pipe is the very last one. Without the weight of the muffler it provides adequate support for the remaining length of the exhaust. The exhaust sits neatly in place with very little play

How does it sound on the highway at cruising speed? I've thought about this, but was worried about the drone.

No drone at all. You only hear the exhaust when you give it some gas. And you only hear the exhaust burping when you downshift in Sport mode. So between driving mode and your style of driving the exhaust can be barely noticeable to a 6/10 loud in my opinion. I used to have a WRX with a 9/10 loud exhaust, it sounded like a rocket launching. This exhaust sound is much more sophisticated

What's the diameter of the stock pipe" 2.25" or 2.5"? I'm looking at a Magnaflow Y pipe and tips.

Cool, thanks. This looks like what I might try.
https://www.magnaflow.com/products?partNumber=10758

And two of these.

Looks like it would cost around $170 for parts. Those tip are kinda pricey.

Looks nice. Did you make sure that Y-pipe will fit 4" tips? Mine are 3.5". Also when you get it installed consider having the exhaust sit an inch further out so it's not tucked under the bumper like the stock one. It looks much better but does expose the hot tips so be careful when loading or unloading the trunk

The output of the Y and the input of the tips are 2.25". The tips are 7" long so it'll be easy to move them out a little more and they are double wall so they won't get as hot as a single wall unit. Common sense will come into play also. I had 4" tips on the system on my R56 and liked the looks of them. Coincidentally they were the blued "burnt" look which went well with my Lightening Blue car. This one is Thunder grey and I believe the polished look will go better.
