Drivetrain No travel left on tensioner, only 6k on belt from Alta
No travel left on tensioner, only 6k on belt from Alta
So I purchased a pulley package (15%, smaller belt, tensioner stop) from Alta almost 2 years ago and have since put about 6k on the car. Correct me if I'm wrong, but aren't there supposed to be holes showing on the tensioner? So I was either sent the wrong belt or this thing just stretched like crazy in only 6k??! How long can I put off changing the belt for?
Sorry the pic is sideways. And yes, I know theres a bunch of oil underneath my mount. Thats from the old one.

i installed the adjustable tensioner stop. removed it after 1k miles. while i was getting my car tuned, we found the belt was slipping at high rpms.
we took out the alta part, but a brand new stock assembly in, no more slipping and ended up putting down an additional 18hp.
it seems like a good idea to protect your crank pulley, but if you routinely check your belt anyway, the aftermarket part is not needed.
however, if you are talking about just the regular old style stop, i have no experience with that, or any issues to speak of. in this case, maybe they sent the wrong belt, or there is another underlying issue causing the belt to wear.
Alta tends to ship a longer belt then most folks on these boards use...guess it makes it easier to install....there are folks that post about the difficulty in installing the belts we suggest...but they work, and don't slip.
I typically suggest a 532 length belt for a 17%
and a 535 for a 15%, all assuming a STOCK size crank damper...
The belts will be HARD to put on..sometimes needed a second person to PULL BACK on the tensioner tool...even if it is pinned...to install the new belt....
The belts are pretty common on other makes..stocked at most every auto parts stores for about $20-25.
Most like the NAPA (made by gates), but most of them are pretty similar.....
Changing a belt is about a 15-30 minutes job....
Remove the passenger tire......pull the wheel liner......use the tool to pull the tensioner tight..pin it...remove the old belt...and then install the new belt...with help if needed, as noted above...then reverse...

Thanks guys. I guess I'm just wondering if this needs to be addressed or not? I mean its not causing me any problems or anything but when I took the stock belt off I was able to insert an allen key into one of the holes like such, which obviously couldn't be done as my car sits

I'm open to changing the belt if I need to, I just had a bit of a miserable time doing it when I put the pulley on and I'm not too keen on doing it again.
