Front Tie Rod End Boots for R53

Does anybody know the dimensions of the tie rod end boots on an R53? One of my boots is busted and wanted to know somebody around here has ever replaced them....without replacing the entire assembly.

This is the part, not to be confused with the sway bar links:

Thanks!

I'm sorry, I can't help with regards to the dims.

But are you looking to replace the Tie Rod end or the boot? Your link sends to the left tie rod end.

Seeing as the tie rod is sold in pieces it sounds like you can just replace the parts as necessary (but I don't know if that's best practice or not).

Just in case others want to see the Tie Rod replacement procedure:

Here is a link to a thread talking about the tie rod end link and the problems/ solutions for replacing them , there is a split year in 5/2003 for the Gen1 MINIs .

Click on the links to the products , some products have mutiple brands / price options you can choose from.

I'm trying to replace the dust boot that connects the tie-rod end to the steering assembly.

I've circled in red what I'm talking about. The tie rod is not damaged and there is nothing wrong with it. The only thing that need to be replaced is the dust boot. I know autozone/napa/advanced sells universal fit dust boots, but I was wondering if somebody knew the dimensions so I can norrow it down and find something that fits. Plus everybody can benefit from this thread.

ECS Tuning,

If all else fails, I will probably end un buying the tie rod end... but I think it's worth the try.

I don't think that you can.....nothing is impossible but in your case you have to buy the whole part

I'm pretty sure that the whole part does not have to be replaced (if the tie rod were bent, then I would replace it).

The boot has clips that hold it in place, meaning it can be replaced.

Thanks for you input anyways.

Welcome,

Thought you were talking about the boot on the rack to tie rod.

Don't think you can get that tie rod end bushing rubber boot by itself , I know you cant on the OEM MINI side. . Also if that boot is cracked or leaking grease the bushing joint get exposed and will wear out, that's where you get play. I would check the bushing for play also.

I've already checked it out and there is no play in that area. I would think that play would happen if the LCAs and the inner and outter ball joints are bad. (Which I already ordered and will be replacing soon). I'm not trying to go cheap, I'm trying to find a solution to this without having to take the whole thing apart.

This is an example of what I've found. (I know, it's from ebay.. just using it as an example)

Somebody can jump in and help me research. There is nothing but good gains from this. Pretty sure someone will have to change this some day too.

I found the correct replacements for our dust cover boots on the tie rod ends. If yours are done for, you can get these ones. Just did a complete overhaul (LCAs, Inner/outter ball-joints) on my suspension this weekend, and they fit perfectly! Hope it helps everybody. It's good when you do a little research, it saves you a lot of money.

Note: You'll have to re-use the clips (those clips don't go bad).
