Hi,

Had my N18 JCW mapped to Manic Stage 2 today, car runs a Airtec Intercooler, scorpion decat and AEM. It produced healthy figures, drives well and pulls like a freight train, but on the dyno the power graph looked a bit strange. Stock and mode A are a nice smooth curve but then B and C seem to be inconsistent up top end?

Will be asking manic to see if they have any ideas but I was wondering if anyone had the same sort of thing or any ideas what it could be?

Car has no faults codes logged, it did have a code for a valvetronic fault in the history but I’ve owned the car over a year and it’s never thrown a check light.

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Could be diverter valve and/or wastegate related. May just need wastegate adjustment. Lou (Tigger) adjusted mine several times because it would let off pressure at certain RPMs, especially maps B & C. So I'd hear a swishing from the close/open.

Hi, I have a question about Manic Stage 2 and a plugs.

For now I have recommended NGK 1422 and for Sage 2 Manic everything is ok.

But on Manic websites there is an info:

"Plugs= Mitsubishi EVO 8 NGK ILKR8E6 ( NGK 1422 for 4 plugs), or
Mitsubishi EVO 10 NGK 91448 Double Iridium ( Hard to find)".

I can get those 91448 in simillar price, is it any better than 1422?
Any advice?

Thanks

My understanding of the only difference between the two is this: the 91448 has double irridium tips, and the 1422 has a single irridium tip on the center electrode.

https://www.ngk.com/product.aspx?zpid=29927

I am currently using the 1422, but I like the desing of the 91448. If you can get them for the same price, I say go for it.

My only concern with the double fine tipped plugs is the increased length of the ground electrode. Could the design have a slightly higher propensity to retain heat and form a hot spot that could lead to pre-ignition? Perhaps, but I tend to doubt anyone but those running very high boost levels would see it. Pricing appears to run $25 to $40 more per set than 1422's.

So it is +1 for 1422 and +1 for 91448

Anyone actually using 91448? and sees any benefits over 1422?

Another question how often do you exchange plugs?

Looks like not many people using 91448 so I will probably stay with 1422.

I have another question I want to turn map C (I'm on Manic stage 2) but I'm scared

I want to use app like dashcommand or obd fusion on ios to monitor stuff, but what exactly I should look on and when to know if it is good or not?

Engine temp, oil temps that is a standard, but what else is important?
AFR? what is afr? Turbo boost? why and what to look for?

Thanks for any advice.

Unless you are using 100 octane gas or methanol injection I would not recommend going to Map C.

I was thinking that 98 octans or v-power shell will be fine for map C. I'm not planning to use any methanol.

I saw some post a while back (I believe August) that the upgrade pricing was discontinued....is this true? I currently have stage 1 with the eventual plan to upgrade to stage 2. I believe at the time the cost was just the difference between stage1/2 pricing. Are dealers now charging full stage 2 price for cars currently running stage 1?

This is true, Manic stopped giving the dealers re-credits, so now the customers have to pay full price. Send me an Email, I might have a solution for your situation.

Not 100% true. I've run Map C on 93 the entire time I had Manic stage 2 without meth or 100 octane and never had an issue.

Now I'm running RPM Stage 3 with an S42 and still have been able to run 93 with timing staying advanced all the way through pulls.

So,
Hows Manic dealing with custom build maps? I mean, CR modified, rods, pistons etc?

you'll be fine. I went stage 2 without blasting my 2014 with 53k miles. No problems 10k miles later with a bigger turbo and stage 3 now. If I were you I would go stage 2 since you're just a Downpipe away from all the supporting mods. You can run the stock one temporarily

Not interested in running an aftermarket cat/downpipe.

Im coming from an EVO IX, this is just a fun city car that my wife and I share... and I’m bored.

I'm assuming that's a fairly modded Evo because I've had no issue walking down bolt on evos from a roll.

Every imaginable bolt on, cams, e85. Was good for 400/420. I don’t think you would have walked that car, but I could be wrong.

Anyways, just want to have a quick little go kart, not trying to race anything in this.

probably not 🤣 . I have kept up fairly well with Stage 2 Golf r's and lightly modded Focus RS and STI's. I'm making around 265whp 330tq (2700lbs car and all)

You def have a weight advantage. New cars are all getting heavier and heavier.

minis are a blast to drive though.

I read the new Golf R’s are only 32xx. That was actually in consideration for my next car. Focus RS is out due to HG issues and an open block.

Can't hurt to blast your valves, then you know your starting fresh and clean.

Got the Stage 1 installed. Have only tried map A. Car runs much more smoothly, reduced hesitation and makes the traction control berserk in 1st gear. I think it’s a healthy improvement.

The mod adjustment has already hit and I am itching for map B. How noticeable is the difference between A and B? My switch is on order at the moment.

i think the average person would be plenty happy with this, but I am jaded from my Evo.
