The time has finally come!
Manic Motorsport has successfully tuned our "Locked, Impossible, State of the Art Encrypted" ECU Through the OBD II Port! Manic Motorsport is a company in the UK. They are bringing Dealer OBD II Port Flashing into our newer ECU's. Yes the 2011+ N18 models. They have said many times that it is not impossible and many companies have simply given up. They proved them all wrong and our tuning solution is here in 2014. No more removing your ECU They are bringing us a Stage I Tune (Stock), Stage II Tune (Intake, Exhaust, Intercooler), Stage 3 Tune (Stage 2 with HYBRID Turbo!), and Stage 4 Tune (Stage 3 with EFR Turbo! Manic Cylinder Head! and others). The tuning device is similar to the Revo Technik SPS. This is a patented solution that Manic Motorsport is bringing to our Turbo Coopers. Switch between all maps almost instantly! This is very exciting for us N18 owners. A break through solution is here this year. Available World Wide, Coming to US! I am anxious to make my purchase ASAP. COMING THIS YEAR! Click the links below for more information.

More info from Manic Motorsport, "Nearly all of them change the data area. Thats how they tune. Thats a small amount of data to upload. We go beyond that, we rewrite the whole ECU. Thats why they cant flash 2010 onward. Its the equivalent of being able to alter the data in a spreadsheet against being able to change the spreadsheet itself and all its formulas plus the data in it. So we can also upload more than one map and switch between them at will. The other tuners cant offer that either. Uploading any software update on a phone, xbox, ecu or anything carries a risk. If it crashes or looses connection doing it yourself you could be in a bad situation if its stuck in reflash mode. Its dead. A manic dealer can rectify that with our help in half an hour."

Not gonna lie, 212whp for a jcw is actually pretty weak. I make 209whp and I'm just a S, but it's hard to gauge how well it is considering this is a N18 option and I'm a N14 owner. Unless that was their stg1 tune or something. But seeing as that was a modded MINI, I beg to differ.

johntotah94 01-15-2014 09:31 PM

Not sure what it translates to in whp but they got 261 bhp off a stage 1 tune JCW.

ra2fanatic 01-15-2014 09:38 PM

222whp, better, but I'm still expecting a bit more with a JCW. Again, maybe because I don't know the N18 as well as the N14...

johntotah94 01-15-2014 09:42 PM

True. But going from 208 bhp to 261 bhp with only software tuning seems pretty impressive to me.

ra2fanatic 01-15-2014 09:45 PM

With proper supporting mods yes. but to go from 176bhp to 260bhp is even more impressive while I ran stg3 Cobb.

solskjaer1999 01-16-2014 07:48 AM

The JCW that is putting down 261 bhp from the Manic tune in johntotah94's video looks like an N14 engine to me....based on the valve cover design. Another thing that isn't mentioned is that we don't know how aggressive Manic's stage 1 tune is. I think a stage 1 with 261bhp from a JCW is impressive. Even more so if it's a safe/reliable tune. I'm impressed with this as a tuning solution for the N18 community (especially if they have the ability to tune a GP!). As a N14 JCW owner though, while Manic does impress me, I would and am going a different route. Folks like DNA tuning and Evolve still strike me as better OBD-II tuners for the N14 just because of their experience. Nothing at all against Manic; just my bias/preference. Honestly, it's just good to see yet another MINI tuner!!

solskjaer1999 01-16-2014 07:55 AM

Although....looking at Manic's Stage 4 has me intrigued.....Once the warranty on my engine is up I plan on doing an engine build with my JCW N14 and I'm hoping to achieve 280whp. I wonder if they can get close to that...

RobMuntean 01-16-2014 08:15 AM

I might be interested. I can't wait to see the official site for this company.

It's a N18 with the cover taken off. EDIT: (Last video of the first post - yellow MINI). The video with the blue one is an N14.

While that is impressive you shouldn't compare a stage 1 to a stage 3.

I think their gains are in line with others. The "news" here is the ability to tune the N18 via the OBD2 port.

exactly! on top of that, you can't just compare numbers from different dynos performed under different conditions.
this tuning option looks like it has good potential. i particularly like the option to upgrade turbo and cylinder heads, altho i'm not sure if i'd want to test how much power the remainder of the engine will be able to handle.

solskjaer1999 01-16-2014 01:37 PM

Well I inquired about the Stage 4 for the N14 engine. I'll let you all know what they say as soon as they email me back. Inquiring minds need to know!

No prices on web any idea about the tuning price for an n18 cooper s auto with jcw tuning kit ? Sent from my iPhone using NAMotoring

johntotah94 01-16-2014 11:00 PM

I'm curious how much gains Stage 4 will give us.
EFR Turbo and Cylinder head. Sounds crazy!!

Same question what is the price and do they map the auto trans n18 turbo.

The auto trans (from what I understand) has a two way communications dialog with the ECU not present in the manual transmissions. The only tuner that I could find that has their head around that is RennTech because they deal with mostly auto trans in Benz tuning.

johntotah94 01-17-2014 11:17 AM

One of the pictures on the manic website has a JCW with an automatic transmission :)

johntotah94 01-17-2014 11:48 AM

But yes. The OBD Tune is for N18 motors and also N14 motors.

CPap 01-17-2014 06:56 PM

This should be fantastic! I love my jb+ but would love a flash for my cm s auto. Stage two will be my path. I wonder if in the future, they would be flexible enough to cater to different modifications and not just the prescribed? A custom tune.

johntotah94 01-17-2014 07:06 PM

Yeah. I love my JB+ too. I'm just looking forward to my turbo upgrades.

I hear ya. I still have a slew of miles left on warranty before I start messing with hardware like that. In due time... or miles.
